“Cute, clean B&B, but tiny rooms”
Reviewed 21 August 2006

We stayed here for 2 nights in early August, 2006. The town/village is very quaint and makes a good central spot for touring and going to Oxford, Stratford upon Avon, Stonehenge etc. Some nice pottery places in town, with delicate bone china mugs that were microwave and dishwash safe. Regret not having bought them there since London was a lot more expensive and have not commonly found these in the States.

Pros: Spotlessly clean, very good breakfast, gracious and helpful hosts. B&B close to town and easy walk of 5 minutes. Rooms well appointed with /small fridge, kettle and tea/coffee things for the morning. Hostess also graciously provided fresh milk for tea.
Cons: Rooms small with the bathroom so tiny, that my husband had to take permission every time he turned!! We had noisy people staying above us who went to the bathroom every hour making our secong night there very painful. We had rooms 1 and 2. Avoid those and instead go for 5 and 6.

If you go, make sure you ask for the upstairs rooms (they all seemed empty when we sat out on the guests terrace), as I think they will be quieter.

Found this B&B by chance driving through the Cotswolds. Despite a "no vacancy" sign, we stopped because it was just so pretty! The gardens were in bloom and it was completely charming. Fourtunately, they had a room. A small double(#5)I think, overlooking the roof terrace was immaculately clean and cosy. A micro fridge had water bottles and our host brought a fresh pitcher of milk for us to make tea in our room. We felt very welcome. The weather was terrific and we sat out on the roof terrace to have our tea and a glass of wine later in the eveving. The bathroom was very tiny, but spotless and a nice hot shower. Our host provided his own maps for our use and we spent a glorious day at Sudely Castle and Hidecote Gardens. The town is touristy and crowded during the day, but after 5pm it is all yours. Dinner at the Dial House was our best meal in England. The B&B is a short walk to the town and the beautiful Windrush River. We loved it!!!

As a family of 4 we occupied two delightful rooms and as a first visit to the cotswolds Pat and Richard made it we'll come-back again experience. The service was excellent, the advice, be it on the weather, road conditions, places to visit, or places to eat was extremely helpful and the breakfasts offered a v.good choice. For the price excellent.

Richard and Pat are great, really helpful.

We paid £75 for a double en-suite room in July.

It's a large B&B with 5 or 6 rooms I think. This is great from some respects (pretty organised, professional service) but slightly disappointing from others (little charm, everything slightly commoditised - the payphone in the lounge is one example: efficient, but not as nice as a phone in your room would have been.

Breakfast was amazing. The situation, 10 minutes walk from the town centre also provides a buffer between you and the bearpit that Bourton can be in high summer, seething with coachloads of tourists who seem to come for Birdland and the motor museum.

The house itself is a bit antiseptic and, most disappointingly, is a new-build, rather than one of the more characterful Cotswold stone cottages which this part of the world seems to be lined with.

So full marks, but somehow a bit disappointing.

My mother and I stayed at the Coombe House at the end of August 2004. We loved it! Richard and Pat are gratious hosts. They will be as involved or uninvolved as you wish. We had the twin bedroom (2 single beds) on the bottom floor. It was en-suite (private bathroom in the room), with lots of windows and a generous sized bathroom. Very well kept up. Also, lots of room so that you can put things away. We also had a T.V. and hairdryer. Breakfast was wonderful. The best we had on our trip. Included many extra treats! No phone in the room, but there is a pay phone type thing with a chair in the common area. Also, it is literally 5 minutes walk to Bourton-on-the-Water town centre. The town is REALLY touristy, but cute. Go to the Dial House restaurant for a very nice (yet expensive) meal. Also, go to Lower Slaughter and walk around. It's real cute!

The Coombe House is a wonderful place to stay, and the welcome is very warm without being over the top! They seem to have thought of everything that you might need or want. The house is very charming and comfortable plus the garden is a delight to see. It truly is only a 5 minute easy walk to the centre of the village, which is so lovely it has to be seen to be beleived. The whole Cotswold area looks like England should look like! I have no hesitation recommending this area and the Coombe house to anyone.

We were welcomed to Coombe House and given a good review of places to eat and not to eat. Very helpful, thank you. Breakfast was good, rooms clean and hosts helpful. The short walk into the centre of the village was just enough to ensure that any noise in town would not be heard at Coombe House I hesitated about whether or not to give this an excellent rating but remember two others on our trip that were outstanding. Nevertheless this is definitely on the high end of the above average rating.

With its many attractions including The Model Village, Birdland Park and Gardens, Bourton Model Railway, The Cotswold Perfumery and the Cotswold Motor Museum and its quaint selection of gift shops, boutiques and cafes, we're sure you'll be spoilt for choice of how to spend your days. In the evening you could stay in Bourton and sample one of the fine restaurants or pubs in the village, with their excellent choice of menus, overlooking the beautiful River Windrush and it's famous bridges, or visit one of the many nearby chocolate box villages before returning for a board game or game of cards in our residents lounge or putting your head down for the night ahead of another adventurous day exploring the local sites. Our seven comfortable, tastefully decorated rooms are all en-suite with free wifi, tea and coffee making facilities, refrigerator and a flat screen TV. After breakfast you may wish to leave your car in our free car park for an opportunity to experience one of the local walks or you can either set about taking in our glorious 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' or take a few minutes in the quiet of our residents' lounge before venturing out. This is an idyllic spot to use as a hub while exploring the Cotswolds.
