“Overpriced, trading on an old reputation, a b&b not a hotel”
Reviewed 28 October 2013 via mobile

Paid £170 for a double room, incl breakfast. Room (in main house) was tired, with the tiniest shower room I have ever seen. Lounge area uninspiring, returned to hotel at 9.45pm (no restaurant), and front door was locked and public rooms in darkness. Breakfast nothing special. Truly feels like b&b. Summary: over-priced but in great location.

Just returned from a lovely night at The Dial House Hotel, right in the middle of Bourton On The Water. Staff at Reception were lovely, very welcoming and gave us a good tips about the local area. The room we had was in The Coach House, which was very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent with very good service and good food.

Room Tip: We had Room 9 which was in the Coach House and very comfortable.

We had 2 rooms over the last weekend for an event nearby. Check-in was friendly and the rooms were ok - we were in the very top floor of the main building. The rooms were nice enough, breakfast was ok and service was reasonable. Overall though I felt it was expensive for what you get. £170 a night should buy something pretty nice and I felt Dial House fell short. For example, cheap foam filled pillows are just not what you expect when paying this sort of money for a room. I also found it strange that they don't do an evening meal on Saturday night.

we have just returned from a few days at the dial house. Bourton on the water is truly a beautiful place. It has plenty of old world charm and character. The hotel is set very much in the middle of this setting with level walks in either direction. The staff here were excellent, helpful and efficient. Our room was in the coach house(9),it was a light airy room with a view across the chestnut tree green. The bed was very comfortable and the room well furnished. This brings me to the en-suite bathroom,we have stayed in some very plush hotels that have top star ratings, but this bathroom was on its own. Nice big bath ,plenty of room for two, where you can lay back and relax at the end of a long day. Then there is the shower, a true power shower,an absolute deluge. Breakfast was also excellent with a proper cup of tea,and the chef knows how to boil eggs to a turn. Is there anything we did not like?,well they do not do evening meals, but it does not matter because there so many places for an evening meal with in a short walk. so i give it 5 . we will we going back next year.

We stayed here for our second wedding anniversary on a Sunday night with our five month daughter. We were greeted by a pleasant young man and taken to our room in the coach house. Which was lovely, beautifully decorated with a lovely spacious bathroom. The shower was brilliant, surpassing expectations.
We wandered to one of the local pubs for an evening snack, we were informed the hotel bar serves until 10pm (maybe later other nights?) but returned to our room.
Breakfast was served by a cheery lady in two rooms. The food was lovely, with cereal, toast, pastries and fried breakfast. There was free WiFi and after checkout (11am) the gentleman on the desk allowed us to leave our car in their car park.
The hotel was full when we stayed there, judging by breakfast, so clearly a popular choice. Bourton is a lovely town, very picturesque, with plenty of gift shops and eateries.

We stayed here on the 29th August. It was a last minute booking and we were told that only one room remained which was the smallest they had. Actually it was perfectly adequate. A comfortable double bed and nicely furnished. The shower was a powerful walk in type which we prefer to a bath. The room was clean with plenty of tea and coffee for us to make if we wanted. We were on the ground floor overlooking the gardens. These are well set out with both tables for eating or deck chairs if you want to relax. Breakfast was acceptable. Cereal or cooked to choose from. The staff very pleasant. We did know on booking that they only served food up to late afternoon. This wasn't a problem for us as Bourton had plenty of eating establishments. We would definitely stay there again.

This review is intended for fellow guests and the management. Whilst we had a lovely weekend in the Cotswolds, the hotel tinged our stay with disappointment. From the perspective of guests who always stay in moderately high-end hotels...

Positives:
The building is stunning from the outside, the bed very comfortable and the bath luxuriously large.

Negatives:
The hotel importantly has NO restaurant and NO bar that operates in the evening. In combination with the generally mediocre standard across our stay, this hotel came across as a B&B masquerading as a hotel.

The hotel interior needs an update and daily maintenance appeared none existent: we had a blown bulb in the bathroom and a pile of erupting ants in our bathroom with past ant powder applications still evident on the bathroom floor. We met no member of staff who took particular ownership of our stay or made us feel particularly welcome. Apparently there was a complementary taxi to the sister hotel (I only glean this from other reviews so may not be the case?). The breakfast was miserable: a reasonable English breakfast let down by a sorry stack of cereal boxes and small pastries. A moderate selection of condiments and fruit salads were needed to make this breakfast acceptable.

In summary, we think that this hotel is currently a B & B trading on its past reputation and online reviews that have not yet been up-dated. Whilst pleasant, is is not appropriately priced and, therefore, leaves you with an overriding disappointment.
