1 night break

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 6 Sept 2017via mobile
We had a 1 night break in the Dial House Hotel and we were very happy with everything, the staff could not of been more helpful even carried our cases from the car to the room you don't get that very often !!!! .The bathroom was spotless and the bed very comfortable and it's right in the middle of the village you can park the car up and walk, would not put anyone off staying at this hotel for a short break.Breakfast was lovely with a good choice and very well presented, a very well done from us to hotel and its staff.

Location is the dead centre of the village with private parking ( behind the hotel)
It is the oldest building in the village ( ~ 1690) very quant and olde worlde
Breakfast was superb, well cooked, and staff were very well trained and know how to serve

First of all, I think Bourton-on-the-water was the right choice for staying in Cotswolds. We stayed a night at The Dial House and it sure is a lovely place.

We booked a good room but did not know that there was an attached private garden which was bigger than the room itself. The room is lovely and the reception staff were helpful and warm.

Bourton-on-the-water not being too big and the hotel being on the high street, everything was within walking distance, including restaurants, shops, tiny bridges, miniature Bourton-on-the-Water, etc.

Would rate 4/5 as they did not have Sky Atlantic which airs Game of Thrones (and I am a big fan) but to be fair, neither did 80% of the hotels I stayed in in the UK. So a 5/5.

Room tip: Try getting the room with the garden, its wonderful!

Visited lunch time on Sunday bank holiday. Staff were undertrained and incompetent in every sense of the word. Table behind us used some more explicit words to describe them..

Took 40 minutes to order drinks, have them brought to us and have the waiter return to take food orders.

Ordered sharing platter with extra chips and two paninis..
Told paninis not available but could do sandwiches and charged same price (£7.50- see picture for evidence of scandal)

Platter arrived (no chips... Waiter argued that we hadn't ordered them.... Despite us having a conversation with him during ordering process about their chips)
With cheese that was sweating and a limp looking salad, no bread and no cutlery.... Waiter said the platter didn't come with bread... Said he'd go ask the chef.

At this point we decided to ask for a refund.... The manager obviously realised that the service was far from acceptable and provided a refund for our bill.

We went to a local bakery for a lovely pastry instead.

AVOID IT.. Such a shame as the location is great.

Booked afternoon tea for my friends 30th birthday, three of us booked costing £68. I was really disappointed in quality and value for money but felt uncomfortable causing a scene on a special occasion so paid and left unhappy. Was expecting something quite special for the price. Small selection of finger sandwiches, all plain nothing special and bread was dry. Small selection of cakes and again nothing that special and not a huge amount for the price. Asked for another pot of tea which we were charged extra for , usually tea and coffee is included in the price. Restaurant was empty and hotel lacked any atmosphere and isn't as nice as their website might suggest through its photographs. Was expecting something quite special for the price, wish I had complained at the time now but certainly will never return.

The trip was my birthday treat as I love staying in Bourton and love the surrounding areas. We chose The Dial House which is the oldest Cotswold Stone building in Bourton on the Water, dating back to 1600s. The positives off the stay was the fantastic location. The hotel externally has loads of charm and everything you would expect from a Cotswold building. There is ample parking, which again is a huge plus especially during high season and the summer months. We were greeted by a young lady who was very pleasant and checked us in. We were taken away from the hotel building and shown to room 14 located in the Coach House. I was a little disappointed as had expected to be staying in the hotel itself. We didn't at the time know of the Coach House building which is not attached. My first impression of the room was very disappointing. The carpet was extremely stained and very grubby. My first comment was there's a dead mouse over there, then realised after closer inspection it was in fact a grey fluffy feather. There was black mould on the walls and the bathroom was especially bad with also flaking paint by the toilet. My partner discovered later that evening when closing the roller blind that this too was also extremely moldy. The towels were stained and also an uninviting stain on the extra blanket in the wardrobe, hasten to add we made no further blanket investigation. I chose not to walk around the room bare footed as very uninviting and unsure what lay beneath.

The positives off the room were a very large bed that appeared to have clean, crisp white sheets and we did get a good nights sleep despite the undesirable room.

We paid for breakfast at the hotel and thankfully this was very enjoyable and set us up for the day. The young gentleman who served us was polite and hard working as he had served us coffees the afternoon before and had welcomed us with a friendly smile.

When we booked out I did mention all that I have written in this review and the gentleman said he would look at getting the room cleaned. However I feel surely I'm not the first person to of mentioned the state of the room and if they were inclined to read the reviews this should have been picked up a long time ago.

If the Hotel continues to be uninterested in constructive guests comments people who stay there will always regret having wasted their money on expensive rooms which do not meet the expectations sold too them.
