Detmore House is highly recommended. The rooms are superb: modern, stylish, clean, very comfortable beds, the area quiet and beautiful. For walkers on the Cotswold Way it is a good option, being situated not very far from Dowdeswell Reservoire on the trail.

I had spent some time looking for a hotel or bed and breakfast in Cheltenham. So many of the central locations looked either dated or very expensive. I chose Detmore House because of the photos of the bedrooms on the website and trusted these were accurate.
They are even nicer. Very clean, modern comfortable rooms with high quality bedding (The White Company) Very nice furniture with lamps, plugs and flat screen TV in all the right places!
We stayed in the Beech room which had a very nice bathroom, spotlessly clean.
Detmore House has recently been completely refurbished and it has been done with excellent taste and thought to the comfort of it's guests.
Gill's breakfast was delicious with a wide choice of menu. She had also made Bircher muesli and fruit salad which were both excellent.
I had been initially concerned that it was not right in the city centre but that was not a problem at all. It was only a short drive into Cheltenham which had numerous car parks and it is also on a bus route into the centre.
An advantage of the location was that the rooms were lovely and quiet, something hard to find in a city.

I was expecting an overpriced country house with little character and could not be more wrong. Fantastic peaceful grounds, an amazing room with elegant en-suite, perfect hosts, and a brilliant breakfast too.

I am tempted to keep this place a secret but have decided to share our very postive experience. I was late finding a place for Sat night during the busy Cheltenham Literary Festival and initially wanted to stay in the thick of it in the town centre. Detmore House is barely 3 miles out, is easy to find with their website's directions and turned out to be simply perfect. In fact one of the best stays we've ever had - and we're well travelled. We stayed in the Oak room which has a fabulous view across open countryside. Better still was the peace and tranquil location as the property is set back, higher up from the main road via a long drive. The house underwent a full refurb around a year ago but you would think it was yesterday - everything pristine and clean - with a superb, seemingly brand new, high quality super king bed, crisp cotton bedding, masses of space, high ceilings and a large ensuite - no expense spared with fittings. Truly a 'Boutique' experience with a breakfast to match, with locally sourced food, served downstairs in the elegant hall with fellow guests. Our hosts were simply charming and clearly have fine taste in decor and standards. A quintessentially English experience of the very best!

We stayed at Detmore last year. In terms of location, it's perfectly placed for visiting the Cotwolds and sits just on the edge of Cheltenham so handy for shopping in town or the races.

The service was friendly, excellent and couldn't be faulted and this standard was echoed in the facilities. The building itself is absolutely lovely and situated within beautiful grounds. The rooms were finished to a standard which genuinely surprised us - comfortable, spotless and spacious.

We'll certainly stay again if we're in the area and would be happy to recommend Detmore to anyone.

Detmore House in Cheltenham - room was spacious, grand, comfortable & quiet. Breakfast was fantastic, served in a stately room with everything you need. It is located in a countryside area on the edge of Cheltenham. Visit nearby Bath - you will need the whole day, get on the open bus tour & save your legs, lots of tourist attractions, cafe's shopping [Jane Austin country] a wonderful place. Also spend a whole day in Stratford upon Avon home of Shakespere - again take an open bus tour as you learn so much more about the history & area. Whatever you do dont miss the village of Burford a quaint village with fab shopping and the historic town of Cirencester which has the Ann Bolyn [wife of Henry 8th ] Cup in the church. The Cotswold area is the best. I want to live there.
