We booked a double classic room direct with the hotel which, by paying a month in advance, was just £73.50 - really excellent value. Our room and bathroom were immaculate and looked as if they had recently been refurbished. The room wasn't large but it was comfortable and complete with a desk and an armchair and side table. The view over rooftops wasn't pretty but it meant the room was away from traffic and therefore very quiet.

There was an iron and ironing board, lots of hangers, an amenities tray and nice fluffy white towels in the bathroom. My only minor gripe was that the washbasin didn't have a grating (I believe this is the case with the basins in much of the hotel) which means it would be very easy to lose a ring or other small object so be careful!

Another reviewer has correctly commented that the Mercure website map is wrong and very misleading, however our satnav did guide directly us to the hotel without a problem.

The breakfast buffet at £15.50 per person was not particularly cheap but there was lots of variety and you could also order additional dishes from the kitchen.

This is a very English, slightly old-fashioned/traditional hotel in an excellent location in the town. There's a large carpark for which the charge is £10 per day. When we checked out and my husband pointed out to the receptionist (who, incidentally was very pleasant and efficient and spoke perfect English) that she hadn't charged us for this, she actually waived the charge altogether.

Altogether we found this an excellent value hotel and would certainly stay there again if we visit Cheltenham.

We booked a standard room for our overnight stay, and when I requested a room facing the front, over the elegant Imperial Square, the kindly Receptionist modified our room to one on the third floor - with a lovely view over trees and the park to the hills in the distance. Staff were all extremely friendly, from Receptionists to Bar and Breakfast people, and we were made to feel welcome. Dining room and conservatory are quite delightful, as is the comfortable lobby, with a four- or eight-seat straight settee which made us laugh. We were also entertained - while we waited with a beer for a friend to join us for dinner at the Blanc Brasserie next door (always a delight) - by musical entertainment prepared for a meeting of the local Rotary Club (dinner jackets and best frocks and all that). A most delightful treat for a rather elderly couple who love old hotels like this.

This is an up-market refined hotel - very professional, helpful staff. Bar and lounge area were fine. I booked on-line using Trip Advisor then Thomas Cook and this gave a £40 discount, which covered the (secure) parking fee of £10 nightly. The location is near to the buses, and the delightful, charming area of Cheltenham. The on-line hotel map had the hotel wrongly located and our SatNav using hotel postcode dumped us quite a few streets away in a one-way traffic system. One guest told Reception they had driven round the wrong block 5 times. Reception staff gave us a map and correctly marked the hotel position. Facing the hotel, hotel (barrier) parking is immediately to left. Wifi available at a fee.

Needed disabled room this time .If in wheelchair it was very roomy and bathroom huge just a pity about the view which is awful!Service was great however. We decided to venure out for dinner and found lovely reasonable resturants in Montpellier square walking distance. In fairness allmost all disabled rooms are fine but if you are not able to get out much wish the views were more pleasant. I love the area and will be back.
