My partner and I stayed at The Queens over August bank holiday with my parents. The location of the hotel is excellent, it's just around the corner from some bars and restaurants.

The hotel looks very grand from the outside, and also is inside. The room was traditional, yet I think is looking a little dated and would benefit from re-decoration.

We only had 1 drink in the bar over the weekend - it was pricey and was very dark in there.

The breakfast was great - you could choose from an extensive buffet selection, or could order from the al a carte menu - worth shopping around to try and get a good rate with breakfast included.

All in all a very enjoyable weekend and I wouldn't hesitate to return.

Stayed: August 2013, travelled with family

I've just returned from a weekend away to celebrate my birthday. This hotel is fantastic - in a great location and close to all the shops, bars and restaurants. It's got a real traditional vibe about it - beautiful interior, great staff, and the rooms classically decorated. I was blessed with a selection of petits fours in my room on arrival as a Birthday treat from the hotel.
Really enjoyed ourselves and will most definitely return.

Room Tip: Front facing rooms overlook the Imperial gardens.

We have just returned from a one night stay at this hotel. We felt the hotel was tired and needed some TLC. On arriving at our Executive Room we felt this was just a normal standard double room. When we got into the bed at night we first thought the sheets were extremely cold but after a few minutes we realised that the bed was very damp as was the quilt itself. My husband went to reception and they immediately moved us to another room which was next door but one. This was a much bigger room which was O.K. but we then discovered it was at the front of the hotel and we were kept awake most of the night by people shouting and the traffic. Breakfast was not too bad but the grapefruit juice was off so we could not drink it, there were no glasses left at that stage and it was 10 minutes before any fresh ones arrived and these were half pint glasses. The toaster barely toasted the bread and things just seemed disorganised.

The frontage of this building is truly impressive in the Palladian style of architecture but sadly, it is really beginning to creak on the inside.
We usually take a room at the front overlooking the gardens as they are pretty spacious and quite comfortable but I have to agree with a previous commentator, the noise from adjoining rooms can be very off-putting and create a never-again situation. Needs addressing and not with ear-plugs!
Staff were pleasant, breakfast fine but please, when I ask for a kipper, don't give me trout.we're not all daft in the dining room!

I stayed for 2 nights through work.
The only reason for the dropped mark is that my room had an interconnecting door with another room, which may as well have been a curtain as I could hear every word of my neighbours!
I asked reception for ear plugs on my way out for dinner in case there was noise at bedtime and they didn't have any. Fortunately, the noise wasn't a problem at bedtime, but I cant be the only person to have complained about that so would be good if they had some earplugs available to guests!
That was the only negative though - I was in room 312 and other than the above, thought the room was lovely and spacious, the bathroom good size and great tv/tea/toiletries etc
Breakfast was one of the nicest I have seen - lots of choices and the staff were all nice and friendly.
Parking is free and readily available outside the hotel after 6pm - otherwise its £10 per night at the hotel.

Needed a bed for one night in the centre of Cheltenham after the latest Horse Racing Meeting. Friday night as well. The hotel know how to charge due to the captive audience when racing is on in town, and its on reflection it would have been cheaper to use taxis from outside the centre but cost aside what a magnificent building, overflowing with character. Unfortunately the nature of our trip meant we spent very little time on site - just sleeping, breakfast and a quick pre-departure drink in the bar. Well trained friendly staff - first class service. Can't say anymore. If cost is not high on your agenda or you are looking for a special hotel from a single night - book it !

3 nights to enjoy the Cheltenham Festival of Literature. Unbeatable location, well-trained and helpful staff, quiet rooms. Car parking is easy - park up and forget the car until time to leave. Will return.
