We have just retuned from a three night stay at Ellenborough Park.
Most comfortable bed in a hotel and nothing was too much trouble Slight hiccup when waiter spilt orange juice over my husband but situation was dealt with most professionally and clothes cleaned
Not cheap but worth the money

Ellenborough Park is really a special experience. We booked 4 months ago and we were truly looking forward to our stay but our stay really surpassed our expectations. The hotel room is probably the best that I have had the privilege of staying in. The service was great and the staff truly attentive.

I have been to 5* hotels all around the world. None like this. Every aspect from staff to room size and cleanliness as well as food, I couldn't fault the place. Would recommend to anyone with deep pockets because it isn't cheap. But you have to pay for quality like this.

Room Tip: All rooms are fantastic

We were recently given some Mr & Mrs Smith Gift Vouchers which we had envisaged using on a night at a small boutique hotel somewhere within a couple of hours of London. The original idea had been to stay somewhere small and personal - but we soon discovered many of the smaller hotels in the collection wanted a minimum of two nights over the weekend. As we were unable to find a weekend home for our children we were restricted to a one night stand.

Having reviewed the collection Ellenborough Park ticked most of the boxes for our one night stand - other than the 'small and cosy' box. (The website and details makes it seem much larger than it actually is - I believe it has somewhere in the region of 70 rooms - so actually not that large) It boasts a spa, a gym, good dining and was within a reasonable driving distance from London.

We arrived around lunch time and were greeted by friendly staff who checked us in and offered us use of the facilities but couldn't provide a room. Lunch in the brasserie was fine, the service was good and the food decent.

Ahead of using the spa we headed to the gym - it soon became apparent that the hotel has a bit of a rambling feel to it as the gym and pool are located in some out buildings behind the main hotel. It also became apparent that the hotel must have recently been renovated to a high quality.

The gym was small and quite clinical - clearly not intended for large numbers of guests to use at the same time. It would be nice to see the usual TV's and some music but the equipment was new and well maintained. The swimming pool was great - although we didn't have great weather over our stay the fact that the pool was fantastically warm tempted us in.

When we were brought our room key (a member of staff located us by the pool) we discovered we'd been given a room in one of the outbuildings. The room was large, well appointed with a comfortable large bed, a large bathroom and an outside terrace by the swimming pool.

The spa, again not a massive spa, was good - we both had excellent treatments and left feeling pampered, stretched and revitalised.

Dinner was excellent. The restaurant was busy but the staff were efficient and friendly. The sommelier was happy to provide practical and affordable advice and the staff we talked to were knowledgeable about the food.

Overall, the hotel was fantastic. It lacked many of the quirky and stylish features you'd typically find in a Smith Collection hotel but its great service, good food and high quality refurbishment made it a good choice for a one night get away. Thanks to all the staff!

It was miserable weather but the place is lovely. Comfortable beds, great imaginative food and the gardens are beautiful. We particularly enjoyed the history - the panelled walls in the dining room and the old fireplaces with real log fires.

Room Tip: If you can afford it get one in the old part of the hotel.

We had a really lovely time in what is a stunning hotel. The Spa was relatively small but very well managed so that you feel like you have the place to yourselves. The massage treatments were wonderful. The decor of the whole place is done to the highest quality, even though it has recently been renovated it is in keeping with the period characteristics of the property. Spacious bedroom and bathroon, beautiful old library/ drawing room. A lovely formal dining room with the benefit of a more casual option of the Bistro on offer too.
The food and wine was delicious. Definitely a real treat !

We would love to return soon!

We were treated superbly from the moment we arrived to when we left. Nothing too much trouble, and the staff were friendly as well as helpful. Im already looking forward to a return visit. Really couldn't fault it, though pricey.
