We wanted to stay in the English countryside over Christmas and found this gem in the Cotswolds. To say it exceeded our expectations would be an understatement. Luxurious and elegant, very British, cozy, lovely.... we can't say enough good things. From the great room with fireplace and afternoon tea, to the formal dining room, to the heated swimming pool and well appointed gym, to the fantastic hike just a mile down the road... you will be asking Mr. Bates to bring you a sherry, and he will!

A real gem in the Cotswolds. My wife and I were very well looked after by the wonderful staff (we were even given country wellies from the boot room when we mentioned that we were going for a walk) and the hotel itself is an attractive mix of the old and new. Our room was one of the cheaper ones in the main hotel but still boasted a four poster bed and speakers in the bathroom ceiling. Luxury! We came here for a relaxing break and it did the trick perfectly.

We arrived late afternoon, around 3pm and still had to wait for our room, but thanks to that we had a lovely tea with biscuits in a lounge, sat next to a fireplace in the oldest part of the building. We were showed to our suite by the lovely receptionist Maya who also recommended us the walk up the hill just outside the hotel. The room was outstanding and huge, slightly cold but there was temperature control which worked beautifully. After returning from the walk, we went to spa, we had jacuzzi, sauna and steam room just for ourselves as there was noone else, which was a nice surprise. We followed that with a lovely meal in the Brasserie. After returning to the room we found our bed prepared for us to sleep, and candles were lit in the toilet, we really liked that. Slightly dissapointed that somebody forgot to wake us up in the morning but luckily we had our own alarm set up for 9am, otherwise we would miss the lovely breakfast. It was really quiet and it took reasonable time to be served, could hardly asked for more. Definitely worth recommending!

After a lovely walk in the cotswolds, we had the audacity to arrive for a pre-booked afternoon tea for 6 persons wearing outdoor clothes and fleeces.
The meet and greet was very condescending from every one.
If you are not dressed up to the nines at 3 o clock in the afternoon then you will not like it here.
This is a strange offering of English tea experience. They got the order wrong and all staff serving had English as a second language so they did understand subtleties nor how to engage with guests or make us feel welcome or comfortable.
Service was very stiff and stilted.
There were about 8 staff at different stations to bid us a patronising jolly farewell.
We couldn't wait to leave

Just the best hotel as the staff were so helpful and the room (very spacious overlooking the racecourse) was fabulous with character. Ate in the Brasserie which was reasonably priced and excellent food. Would definitely highly recommend to anyone wanting a quiet weekend in a character hotel wanting to be pampered.

Room Tip: In the main part of the hotel more character

Ellenborough Park is a castle style mansion hotel in a lovely Cotswold setting. The interior is beautiful, rooms are extremely comfortable and the food is very good. However what set the place apart even more than the building and the setting was the exceptional service provided by all the staff. Such a high level of service can often come across as a bit formal and stuffy, but here the staff were so warm and friendly without being overbearing. We felt very comfortable and at ease, a wonderful place to stay.

My boyfriend and I just got back from a 2 night stay at Ellenborough park. I was slightly disappointed as the hotel is right by a main road (I'd hoped for an escape from civilisation!) and we were put in the new part of the hotel, where the bedroom lacked character to the point of being no more special than your average chain hotel. The bathroom, however, was fantastic and although our bed was made up from 2 singles (we had a divot) the room itself was perfectly clean and well-maintained. Fortunately we booked a 241 deal on the room, but if we hadn't I would feel quite ripped off! I felt the hotel sold itself as an old-world escape, but it's actually only the main building that is old.

We were talked into booking for fine dining which was a mistake - it was £45 for 2 (tiny) courses - my boyfriend looked under his plate for the rest of his meal !!! - and drinks on top were pricey (glass of wine £9). We ate at the brasserie on our second night which was delicious and much better value for money.

Apart from all those negatives the rest of the experience was top notch. The staff treated us like royalty and the spa treatments, whilst on the pricey side, were enjoyable. We didn't use the jacuzzi or the outdoor pool - it was completely exposed and not near the spa so it wasn't enticing. One of the best things about the hotel was the Boot room - they will kit you out with top range walking boots, socks and coats and set you off on a stunning walk nearby.

Overall we had a great stay at Ellenborough Park, the treatment by all the staff really made the experience special, I'd just hope for a nicer room next time!
