“Lovely place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 April 2014

Stayed here as part of my wife's 40th birthday weekend. The staff were friendly and very attentive, the location is beautiful and the food was fantastic. We stayed in a new part of the building that was a comfortable size, my wife loved the bath and everything was clean and very well maintained. On an evening it is so peaceful and after dinner we had a few drinks in the Great Hall which was very relaxing. Overall a superb place to stay for a special occasion or just to get away from it all. Free wifi and an excellent choice and quality of room refreshments is a nice touch. Highly recommended.

Relaxing comfortable hotel with friendly staff. Enjoyed the venue for a lovely wedding. Also great breakfast and dinner in the brasserie. Didn't get time to use the spa.
Shower good, excellent mirrors, comfy bed. Like the organic tea and fresh milk in the mini bar. Complimentary water too. Main building has some interesting historical features.

We have had a lovely start to our short break. Everybody at the Ellenborough have looked after us so well, thank you, but what I must comment on whilst still here is that tonight there was a smallish blip with one of our meals. I can't be more appreciative to our lovely waitress and the super Mr Hanna (GM ) you dealt with my problem brilliantly, again, thank you and we are delighted to be staying with you once again.

I am delighted that you are enjoying your stay here once again, it's always nice to see guests return.
I am also pleased that I, with my colleague, was able to resolve your 'blip' with one of your meals.
We hope you have an enjoyable Easter Break.

From the moment you drive up in the rain to be met by a member of staff who takes your bags and parks your car, you know this is a very upmarket place.
Try to get a room in the old part of the hotel with wonderful characterful fittings. The annex is a short walk away, not so pleasant when walking to breakfast in the rain, and slightly bland.
WiFi (free) worked very well and a good desk to work at if you needed to.
Service is spot on – not too obsequious but addressing you by name and nothing too much trouble.
We dressed up for dinner in the main restaurant and were surprised that, despite a stated dress code, a good number of people had not taken the trouble and some were in jeans and trainers. (Don't get the idea we are stuffy - just surprised!)
Breakfast was all you could ask for and delicious scrambled eggs.
Not cheap of course, but ideal for a romantic weekend – or a day at the races.

Room Tip: Try to get a room in the old part of the house - much more character.

Thank you for your comments concerning your recent experience. We are delighted that you enjoyed everything about your stay with us, thank you also for your recommendations regarding rooms, we have some guests who enjoy staying in Woodland Court because it is close to the pool and the rooms are more modern and other guests enjoy Ellenborough Gate and the Mews because they are a mix of old and new and they have small terraces. As you will know from your time here there is a real mix. Thank you too, for your comments about of food and service we are pleased that you enjoyed these. We will have a look the dress code thank you for highlighting.

This is by far the best afternoon tea experience I have had. It is perfection on a plate! The staff are faultless, the location stunning, the food a delight. I can also highly recommend the non-alcoholic cocktail (mojito) it is to die for. This was our first visit for my Mums 80th birthday, but it certainly won’t be our last. Thank you Ellenborough Park for making my Mums birthday so special ;0)

We enjoyed 3 nights at the Ellenborough Park in March 2014. We found it a very well maintained hotel and grounds, with very approachable and friendly staff.
A lot of the rooms are in separate buildings away from the main house, so you are exposed to the weather, to and from, the breakfast / dining room & bar.
We requested a room in the main house. Room 19 was a luxury room which was a bit pricy but very pleasant with double aspect windows overlooking the main entrance and over the fields to the racecourse in the distance. It had a huge bathroom with double basins, bath and separate shower.
The main dining room is expensive and formal with two tasting menus and the set dinner menu. We were offered a choice of a course from the tasting menu as an option. Aperitifs are offered with your pre dinner drinks and an amuse bouche between the first and second course. With coffee at the end of the meal there were some delicious petit fours. The alternative to the main dining room is the less formal brasserie / bar which we tried one evening and is more reasonably priced and enjoyable.

Room Tip: We requested a room in the main house. Room 19 was a luxury room which was a bit pricy but very plea...

Thank you very much for your wonderful review and saying that we are living up to our rating, this is most pleasing. As you wrote, our bedrooms are across four locations in a mix of old and new buildings. Each area has a completely different feel and we know from different comments made that there is a variety of preferences. We are very pleased too, that you enjoyed all your meals here and look forward very much to seeing you again in the sunshine.
