“A particularly excellent heritage railway”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

Before you read on, I confess I absolutely love a heritage railway and this one has diesel engines as well as steam, so it was going to be a winner for me. But the volunteers here do a particularly terrific job; everything is so well organised, from the trains running to time and description, to a really lovely tea shop (a timely cream tea can really placate a less interested husband). They have all sorts of engines and carriages which are both restored and working, and also awaiting a great deal of loving care, and I loved seeing all the work in progress. My favourite touch was the rather imposing and appropriately attired Stationmaster. When I retire in 30 years I hope I can volunteer somewhere similar.

“Fun Day Out”
Reviewed 26 August 2014

We have visited this railway a few times and always enjoy it. The line is quite long and there are plenty of stations to get on/off at. This railway is great value for money.
The volunteers were very friendly and helpful.
We went on a diesel gala day and had day rover tickets so we could get on/off trains as we pleased all day. Some stations are not designed for buggies/wheelchairs.
All of my family enjoyed the day out and will no doubt be back again in the future.

“Great day out”
Reviewed 26 August 2014

We came here as a family group in early August on a rainy day. We had two young boys with us (2 and 5 years) and seven adults. None of us are railway enthusiasts and we headed here in the hope that it would keep the boys entertained for a few hours.

We were pleasantly surprised. Rides on steam trains, diesels (on which the boys got to operate the horn) and a very nice light lunch made it a really nice way to spend 5-6 hours on a washout day.

I would highly recommend to others.

The staff and volunteers are fantastic too.

“A beautiful jouurney”
Reviewed 26 August 2014 via mobile

This is lovely train journey, a scenic route with a long tunnel (which the kids loved). Make sure you plan your trip well though and perhaps incorporate something to do at one of the stations as £38 is a lot of money for a family for a there and back ride. The station and aboard train facilities for familes are good and it is very well organised.
