After booking the Montpellier Chapter based on the Mr & Mrs Smith recommendation, I was glad to see it delivered on all fronts. Everything from the uber-tasteful design, the friendly, attentive staff, and the daily cake in the Library. I didn't want to leave.

I stayed in one of the cheapest bedrooms and it was well proportioned with a super comfortable bed and great bathroom.

The hotel bar is small, but chic - drinking cocktails by the library window in the afternoon was my favourite past-time.

The restaurant is spacious with a good menu of modern British cuisine. I only wish we'd eaten their a few more times. Oh, and the courtyard is very cute.

Be sure to make use of the spa as well! The staff made every effort to accommodate last minute requests and the facilities are stunning.

What more can I say, for my friend & I it was absolutely perfect. Surrounded by great wine-bars & bistros (once you get past the usual chain restaurants) and gay-friendly without having to try to be..

I'm already planning a second visit with friends in a few months.

Room Tip: Mr & Mrs Smith had a 'Book 2 nights, get 1 free' deal when I booked.

We had a great meal atthe Montpellier Chapter with 6 friends in the private dining room. The service and cocktails in the bar were excellent, there was a real buzz around the place, the staff were knowledgable and efficient. The food and wine were superb with most of the group enjoying the scallops followed by the pork with a mouthwatering piece of Belly and crackling to accompany the fillet. I would thoroughly recommend the Chaper, we will cretainly be returning.

Having read several comments on the web, seen the website etc. I had some expectations. In short, I'm happy that I went and certainly would return. I truly recommend this hotel!

Parking, easy and free ... checking in, very helpful but the venue does not have a common check in desk, so at first one gets a puzzled feel but one of the staff will address you. The room was wonderfully equipped and I liked the bathtub in the room (to be separated by curtains, if needed). As their website says, all is correct and true. I enjoyed the Nespresso machine in the room, the iPod, the flat screen etc.

At about 4AM the fire alarm went off without any clear reason. One should have informed the guests right after that there was no reason to worry!
The only other item I was not charmed about was the breakfast table. Very scarce! Most Brits like to order a cooked breakfast and that all was made to order. Maybe that is the reason why the breakfast table was kept lean. The products out on the table were excellent quality (home made bread).
Check out was friendly and efficient again.

My wife and I were pleasantly surprised to find ourselves bowled over by this hotel. We are seasoned campaigners and it is not often you go to the pioneering outpost of a new chain and find so much to like. Let's start with the positives:
- Clean modern design, with sensible use of materials (wood, soft textiles, and steel and glass where appropriate, with preservation of key features and key design principles from the existing heritage site)
- Prime location - at the top of the chi-chi Montpelier precinct high street
- Generously sized, exquisitely designed rooms with high quality fittings (dimmable lights, smart controls, ultra plush bed and linen, deluge shower, deep soaking bath, designer furniture throughout)
- Thoughtful, and practical extras - such as complimentary minibar, nespresso machine, free wi-fi and bang up to date electronic/media connectivity (how many places have a multimedia board in the desk that lets you output AV from any device (camera, smartphone, laptop) to the in-room TV and stereo?
- A fine in-house restaurant serving both well-executed comfort food as well as an a la carte menu with seasonal ingredients and one or two "chef"-y flourishes
- An outstanding bar, staffed by bartenders that can make a dirty martini or a cosmopolitan as well as a variety of proprietary cocktails
- Well thought-out common areas, with stunning reception, cozy library, conservatory and 2 courtyards (one internal) to get the best of the weather when it is favourable
- A great spa, with high quality treatments priced sensibly
- Warm, competent staff who understand how to make you feel at home, but also deal with all the important details well (getting the bill right, dinner and spa reservations booked and scheduled thoughtfully, identifying the best rooms to suit your needs, local expertise and advice)
- Ample onsite, secure complimentary parking
- Caters well for families with young children
Negatives:
- You have to wait till 2012 for the next branch
- You can't really spend more than a couple of days in Cheltenham, although there is plenty to do in the Cotswolds more generally
- No in house pool

Staff who are genuinely happy to be there. Rooms that have every amenity to the highest standard. Stunning architecture and interior design. This is the warmth and service of a B&B in a genuine five star setting. The restaurant is great as are the wine bars and excellent local bistros and it's a perfect jumping point around The Cotswalds. This is truly a rare holiday gift.

I was treated to lunch here in mid July by my mother. Being a former regular at the Kandinsky I had eagerly awaited to see what the new company, Swire Hotels, had done with the building. I used to love the "Shabby Chic" quality of the Kandinsky, and though the Montpellier Chapter has clearly had a high level of investment and design input, as much as it looks fantastic, it does lack a certain warmth, it's very clinical at times.

On to the food... It's a very extensive menu, but seemed reasonably priced. I chose a Crab starter and my mother chose Scallops. The Scallops were cooked just right and could not fault the dish, however, my Crab dish was poorly executed. A small pile of white Crab meat and slightly larger helping of brown Crab meat were served with a soggy piece of chargrilled bread and an absolutely insane amount of mayonnaise that completely ruined the whole dish.

It was when I was taking in the amount of mayonnaise on my plate that the site of a chef and our waitress kissing really did put me off my food. This kind of thing should not be happening in full view of customers and we were not the only people in the dining room to witness this, the couple on the table next to us commented as well!

All in all, not the greatest experience.
