My husband and I stayed here at the weekend as a surprise for my birthday. We both love Cheltenham especially the Montpellier area but it was all about the hotel for us as we’d already experienced The Magdalene Chapter in Exeter and loved it!
The room was a small double very compact and bijou with all of the mod cons, however at the Exeter hotel you were presented with an iPad which basically was your guide to everything about the hotel, its menu and its services. In our room we had an iPod which was attached to a cord and which couldn’t be read unless you were stood up by the desk (you couldn’t pull the chair out and sit because the bed was in the way) – hardly reading at your leisure and in comfort…
Breakfast was lacking in a number of ways:
You were pointed to your seat – not shown
You had to ask for toast (which was just your standard sliced white or brown value variety) and for sauces – surely this should be offered as a pre-requisite?
Selection wasn’t as varied as previously experienced at the Magdalene where the choice was huge.
The room where breakfast was served was hot and uncomfortable
The general feel of the place and the staff just weren’t on the same level – not that engaging or friendly. A BIG disappointment when we held such great expectations!More
