Stayed three nights, very good, excellent breakfasts, good dinner menu, most helpful staff. Hotel is in a good location for visiting the Cotswolds. They are dog friendly which is a big plus.

Room Tip: We were given a ground floor room which was very spacious and quiet.

Clarence Court is a comfortable, homey place--not luxurious, but clean and cozy. The staff is wonderfully helpful. And, the breakfast they offer is excellent. Cheltenham itself claims to be the door to the Cotswolds. It is a busy commercial city with none of the Cotswolds charm. It is close to the Cotswolds, but if you are looking for small town rural atmosphere, don't choose Cheltenham.

I was very impressed with this hotel, there are many positive elements to draw readers’ attention to.

The hotel was booked over the phone in May for our overnight stay in June, whilst no confirmation was made, on arrival our details were in the system and a room had been reserved for us. The proprietor had allocated us a room on the ground floor and mentioned he had done that so we could take our dog out for a walk more easily, which I think was very thoughtful.

The room was very good indeed, it was a sensible size and not like the rabbit hutch rooms of many modern hotels, the ceiling of the room must have been at least fourteen feet in height which gave an even greater impression of space. The decoration and indeed restoration of the room had been carried out sympathetically with the Georgian/Regency style of the building. Everything about the room spoke of quality, the furnishing and décor were impressive and added to the overall feel of the room. There was a scattering of antiques and reproduction furniture around the hotel which complimented the building.

The bathroom was well equipped with quality toiletries, the shower was at a sensible height and provided a constant stream of hot water. Towels were luxurious and in keeping with the room spotlessly clean. The room had the usual refineries, such as a kettle and tea/coffee making facilities.

There was a flat screen TV with a good range of digital programmes, there is also a DVD library available from reception. The bed was large and equipped with an excellent quality duvet, it was one of the most comfortable beds I have slept in.

The location is excellent, just a five minutes walk into the centre of Cheltenham but you would never guess this to be the case, the hotel is set in a square with a lovely green park area forming the centrepiece of the surrounding Georgian/Regency buildings. I am not a culture vulture but couldn’t fail to be impressed with the style of the buildings. For those culturally inclined, just round the corner is the house where Gustav Holst was born.

There is a bar area and restaurant in the basement which is open to the public, a nice touch is that next to the bar is a ‘residents lounge’ for those who wish to relax in comfort with other guests. The bar has a large flat screen TV, Euro 2012 was showing during our visit.

All the staff I encountered were pleasant, helpful and clearly were well schooled in the art of customer service.

I cannot comment on the food other than breakfast as we did not eat at the hotel, however breakfast was fine. The traditional English breakfast was well cooked and presented, there was a good choice of the usual juices and cereal starters. The only downside to breakfast was a businessman staying at the hotel who insisted on everyone in the dining room being party to his early morning business meeting conducted on his mobile phone. My suggestion to the hotel would be to place a polite notice on the dining room door requesting that mobile phones not be used in the dining room.

Check out, as check in, was efficient.

I would recommend this hotel as I found it to be good value for money, a pleasant, well located and equipped place to be. There is free parking in the hotel grounds and the no charge was made for the dog, well done 'The Clarence,' as often these days hotels charge for both.

Just returned from a 4 day half term break with elderly parents and teenage daughter..this was a large, comfortable with period features hotel, however when it came to bathrooms they were very large and modern. I requested a lower floor for my parents..and that's exactly what we got. Every room was tastefully decorated(maybe some little attention needed here and there)but I would return here anytime.
The staff were incredibly helpful and were attentive to our every need. There is plenty of onsite parking and it is approximatly 10 mins walk to the centre. The breakfast was plentiful and hot. We also booked a train to Birminghan from Chletenham Spa...cost approx £22 per adult..45mins journey...about 15mins travel time(through traffic to train station) I would recommend this hotel for a relaxing shopping break. So if you love period features and relaxation ...this is the hotel for you.

Room Tip: Room 16....or Wellesley on ground floor

The Clarence Court is a lovely hotel close to Cheltenham town centre but in a quiet Regency square. I stayed in a lovely double room on the ground floor having asked not to have to go up too many stairs. The bed was comfortable and the shower room clean with a lovely powerful shower. The room had an extremely high ceiling and large window which let the sun in until the late evening. Breakfast was very good and the staff were friendly and helpful. The location is great for the shops and for the event I was attending at the Pittville Pump Room. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: As there is no lift in this Regency building I asked for a room on a low level floor and got the ground floor which was great.
