“You won't get an early night or a full nights sleep”
Reviewed 31 October 2011

We chose this "Hotel" because it had parking facilities, but it was full so it cost another £10 to park in a nearby car park. The place seemed more like poor student accomodation, it was full of students coming and going all evening and throughout the night. The hotel is situated next to 2 very noisy pubs with live music that must break noise regulations by a considerable level. The shower in the ensuite couldn't be used because the water wouldn't run away and just kept gurgling all evening whenever anybody else in the hotel ran water, the room and bed linen didn't have a very nice smell to it.. Opposite the hotel was a kebab shop and what appeared to be a taxi rank, put all this together with single glazed windows and it makes for a night of hell, gave up in the end and got up at 6-30am and carried on with the rest of our journey without any breakfast because they don't do breakfast and we couldn't find anywhere nearby to have any.

I urge all travellers to read every last bit of information when booking accommodation, no matter whether it be ours or not.

The Central Hotel does have a free car park, which is available on a first come, first served basis. We are a town centre hotel, and noise is to be expected when in the heart of the hustle and bustle of day to day life. It is not stated that we offer breakfast, at any time on any morning, as we are in fact a self-catering hotel. None of this information is hidden from guests before booking, and all literature on our direct website, as well as third party websites, states we are a central, self-catering hotel with limited parking facilities. We also like to contact our guests before their arrival to confirm they are aware of the accommodation they have booked.

In the review the guest does mention that only single glazing windows are installed. This is due to the building being Grade II Listed. There are options for interior secondary glazing, which Central Hotel is currently looking into, and will be going ahead with.

Was looking for a regular base while on business in Cheltenham and decided to go for Central Hotel. Booked room on fully pre paid rate. Due to the sickness, had to change travelling plans.
Called hotel at 8am and was told to call back as the office not opened yet. Called at 9am - was told that booking cannot be cancel, but since I was reconsidering to stay the day after - reservation could be moved. Ok, I said that I will think about it and call back. Called back at 3:30pm, was put on hold and later told that some will call me back as no decision could be made? Well, no one bothered to call me. Had to call again at 5:40pm - was told that due to the cancellation policy can not cancel/ amend. I objected and explained that already did call several times and was offered to move the booking for next day (actually spoke with the same person on 3 occasion), but lady on the phone just robotically repeated cancellation policy and ‘could not help’. Well, could not or did not want to?
Very disappointing - will have to take my business somewhere else – hopefully other hotels are more ‘flexible’ and tae better care of their clients.

Stayed 1night in single room 10. Breakfast not included. Reception open working hours only. Arrived late. Collected key from a key safe. Code sent via hand-phone. Clean room. Car parking back of hotel-dark. Can park on the road between 6pm-8am.Managed to get a discounted price (similar to B&B) online otherwise more value for money to go for a bed and breakfast.

OK room, fairly clean and well equipped with hair-dryer, mini fridge, mircowave oven, tea/coffee making facilities, LCD TV AND great-smelling shampoo and shower cream!!! Location is perfect, just about 5 minutes walk away from High street, the main shopping belt and less than 10 minutes’ walk from the main bus station.

Single ensuite room's size is ok (but probably not for larger people). Hot water in shower will only be activated if you let the water run FULL blast for a while - which means that the shower stall gets flooded by the time you get hot water!!! What a strange and inefficient way for a water heater device to work!?! Other than this, I got everything I want in this room so no complaints. Paid 39 pounds for the room without breakfast.

Room Tip: Room doors tend to slam shut so if you have inconsiderate people staying near you, you won't hav...

The room was fine and the location central BUT...
We could every movement upstairs and the doors slammed loudly through the night (most rooms are not ensuite so people us toilets on landing and doors have strong springs that make them slam loudly)
Also loads of noise from street.
Fridge and microwave great but, cold shower and bathroom light bulb gone and not replaced even on second night after we asked!!!
Spend a bit more elsewhere and have a much nicer time. Unless you are student like most of the other weekend customers. It does remind me of student halls.

I stayed here for a girly weekend with two friends and we had a family room. The sofabed was comfortable, but one of my friends found the double bed uncomfortable. The room was a little crampt with all 3 of us in it but it had everything we needed and all that you'd expect (wardrobe, clothes storage, good shower, kettle, fridge etc.).

The location was a real plus - walking distance to everything that we wanted. And the price was very good for such a central location.

On the downside our room was at the front and there was quite a bit of noise from traffic and people going to the late night takeaway across the road.

The carpark is small, but we arrived at 4pm on a Friday and got a space fine.

Overall I quite liked it and I recommend it for value and location, it's a shame that I can't give it a 3.5 score overall for 'good' (as 'average' is a bit too low for it and 'very good' is a bit too high).

For dinner I recommend Vanilla restaurant - it's in walking distance, and for breakfast we enjoyed Cafe Rouge - sat out in the sunshine under the trees.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back to get a better night sleep.
