Our trip to Purslane was excellent. The restaurant focuses on being environmentally-friendly and the seafood was second to none. The French menu is mainly seafood but there are other things to tempt the palate including vegetarian options. The staff were friendly and professional and the food exquisite. I've knocked 1 star off because I do think that the prices could be a couple of pounds cheaper (starters were around £8 and mains were in their mid-teens) but for a special occasion Purslane cannot be beaten. This little restaurant deserves to do really well and is a welcome addition to Cheltenham.

The other "best" review will follow later.

I ate here last night as a table of four and everything we ate was delicious. The full restaurant was a credit to the cooking but made for occasional delays in service which was, nevertheless, light and friendly. The ambience was good - we never felt rushed and the layout is such that every table feels private, although toward the end of the evening the convivial chatter from the dozen or so tables with contented diners made for high background noise.

A short but enticing menu had us all talking - what to choose when everything sounded so good and the dishes being served to neighbouring tables looked so fine. Bread arrived - 6 beautiful pieces - 2 fenel flavoured white mini loaves, 2 slices of spelt & ale bread and two soda bread buns - with the excellent butter these set the tone. Starters of Crisp Megrim Sole, Crab Salad and Devilled Cornish Sardines were pretty to look at and better to eat. My sardines were crisp, plump, moist and served with a delicious hollandaise sauce.

3 mains of Roast Skate and a Roast Pollock with mushrooms were again all pictures on the plate and tasted as good as they looked. Pollock is not well flavoured fish but cooked lightly with the flesh flaking off nicely and teamed with mushrooms, kale and truffles it rose to the occasion - delicious. Two bottles of a reasonably priced and crisp Sancerre complimented the dishes.

Two excellent chocolate terrines, 2 cheese boards featuring great British cheeses and some excellent coffee rounded of one of the best meals I've enjoyed this year.

My husband and I went with friends and from the very beginning felt we had found a wonderful place to eat. The decor was soft elegant and pleasing. It was lovely to eat out with friends and feel we were not having to shout to be heard or to have strangers conversations overpowering ours. Our charming hosts took special care of us. The dishes were all beautifully presented and very tasty. I love fish and found that each fish dish ordered was cooked to absolute perfection without being dry which so many restaurants, including expensive ones, do to my disappointment. The service was perfect, prompt and dignified. I could go on about this wonderful place. Welcome to Cheltenham, Purslane, we wish you every success and we will be going back again and again.

Me and my partner went to Purslane this evening. We have been searching for a long time to find a restaurant which specialises in fish, and Purslane is a real gem.

The restaurant itself is gorgeous, intimate (12 tables in total) and with stunning decor.

The menu is succinct and offers a good choice of seafood dishes. Our food came promptly, perfectly presented and tasted absolutely wonderful.

The owners of this establishment are onto a winner, beautiful location, atmosphere and food-which is reasonably priced given the evident quality in the preparation, presentation and taste of each dish.

We look forward to coming back here soon.

Stumbled across this gem of a restaurant during a quick overnight stay in Cheltenham and what a find! Do go if you enjoy the freshest of fish, prepared with great skill and served with pride. Don't go if you like your food served up by the barrow load! Its been a while since I enjoyed a meal as much as this and will definitely return when in the area. Final tip, try the oysters even if you haven't had the courage to before.
