Having heard wonderful things about L'Artisan Cheltenham, we were very eager to try it. When the opportunity presented itself, it surpassed our expectations.

It is actually a little corner of France. The uncontrived "Bonsoir" you receive as you enter sets the tone for an authentic French meal. Lovely home-made bread to start, a varied and enticing menu to choose from and excellent, attentive service throughout. We had a wonderful seafood profiterole to start with followed by slow-cooked lamb and a filet steak - Seignant to order and delivered exactly that. We were not left to linger hungrily yet there were good intervals between the courses, including an Amuse Bouche before the starter and a sweet one with our after dinner coffees. the atmosphere is buzzing and bistro-like and it is a wonderful dining experience if you are celebrating a special occasion. if you just want a fantastic meal for the sake of it, you will be hard pressed to find a comparable experience in Cheltenham. Thank you Elisabeth and Yves for a sublime evening. We will be back!

I have been twice and am going again soon. Really enjoyed the Steak Tartare which I had on both occasions - just perfect with extra shallots, capers etc... so you can tailor it to your taste. Also great was the Mushroom and Camembert risotto wrapped in smoked ham and washed down with an excellent smooth Cab Sav from Chile. Service was excellent too. The only downside is that its not open for Sunday lunch and parking isn't easy near by. Treat yourself - you won't regret it!

The restaurant was authentically French (including the staff). The starter was one of the best I have had. All courses were elegantly presented and had very interesting combination of tastes. The meal was not cheap but you are paying for quality.

We visited L'artisan on a busy Saturday night, it was fully booked with a nice atmosphere. The starter (scallop and prawn skewer with green risotto) was absolutely exceptional. Main (seabass) was very good and a lovely crepe fir dessert. Slight disappointment was not being offered bread as we muted all other diners were, and not told of specials for main course which we later overheard with disappointed that we hadn't been aware of them. The service was very good and a great selection of wine - petit Chablis was excellent. Would definitely go back despite the minor issues.

I have to agree with the other reviewers that this is up there with the best... We ate here on a wet and cold winter's night and walked into an atmosphere that was warm and welcoming. The food did not disappoint - unpretentious, beautifully cooked and made with love. Do not be put off by the slightly old fashioned traditional look of the dining room - utterly charming.
