Me and my mum had always wondered what it would be like to live in a terraced townhouse, with the feel of oldie-worldy wealth! Something that not many of us have the luxury of! Well, this beautifully preserved double-converted guesthouse lets you feel just that. All the feel of a Victorian home, with the added bonuses of 21st Century mod-cons!
We stayed at this hotel for two nights when we attended a family wedding in Cheltenham and as soon as you enter, you can feel the care and attention that goes into keeping this house special - a hidden delight.
Unfortunately for us, we arrived in what appeared to be some sort of typhoon (rain like never before and huge gusts of wind), but this was all forgotten once the doors closed behind us and we were greeted by, who we assumed to be, the proprietor, who led us into a lounge with ready-made pots of tea and coffee. Bliss!
The lounge room is located to the left of Reception and as kitted out with a full self-service [mini-style] bar (a fridge with beers/soft drinks/wine and wine/spirits on display in a cabinet), comfy sofas and an open fire. Complimentary newpapers and a selection of books are at hand if you just wanted a relaxing morning before commencing your stroll across the park/green and past the wonderfully refurbed Pump Rooms (where our wedding was taking place the following day).
I believe that the house itself is two Victorian houses converted into one and has two floors housing [my guess would be around] 12-ish rooms (with two more on the Ground Floor), all elegantly decorated with a homely, confortable feel. As for the beds...so comfortable, we nearly overslept and missed the wedding! (Something I don't think many people can say about a hotel bed!!)
Breakfast is included in the room price and caters for anything from a Full English to cereral to Continental breakfasts, with free-flowing juices and hot bevvies.
There is a patrons car park [free of charge] to the rear (my only 'grumble' is that discovering the car park is pretty difficult if you are not familiar with the layout of terraced streets such as these - which we are not!). There is, however, ample on-street parking for which you are able to have a permit for (enquire at Reception). Although, when I say 'ample', please try and remember that this is a residential street and trying to find a parking space (pretty much anywhere these days) can be arduous!
All-in-all, this hotel was pretty fabulous! Not cheap, but would Queen Victoria have settled for anything less? ;-)
