The night before I visited Butlers I stayed in an Oxford B and B where the room was so small I was practically able to switch off the wall light by the door and be in bed before it was dark.I left, to paraphrase P.G. Wodehouse, if not disgruntled, certainly not gruntled. By contrast my room at Butlers was expansive, very nicely decorated, comfortable, quiet and nicely themed. I received a very warm welcome and had a double room with a very nice and spacious en-suite bathroom and kitchenette. I didn't actually have a butler but I was certainly very well looked after. That sense of being looked after and feeling at ease extended into the next morning. I was just tucking into the old b and e when a fox wandered into the garden outside. Foxes I have encountered in the past have not tended to enjoy close proximity to humans but this one made himself (or herself) at home, seeking out the part of the garden that was attracting the most sunshine and sunbathing for the next fifteen minutes. That's the kind of place Butlers is. Even a fox feels the need to slow down and soak up the atmosphere a bit.
