Stayed here a while ago.
Nice enough place - large, well-appointed room at the front of the hotel with lovely tall windows. (Junior Suite maybe?). The bathroom drains smelled unpleasant but they did their best to fix that. Good breakfast.
When I booked, I specifically asked if there was a wedding or function on - they said no, just a quiet private dinner on the Saturday. However, this was anything but - the noise from the music went on until 1.30am - I had to phone down to the night porter to ask them to stop,There was then noise from people shouting on the street until much later.
The staff at reception the next morning did their best to address the issue and we appreciated their efforts. However, our weekend was somewhat spoilt.
I understand that hotels like this make their money from functions, but they need to consider all their guests.
We also ate in the restaurant (Monty's) on the first night - it was OK, nothing special.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. All your comments have been noted and I am very sorry that there were a couple of disappointing issues during your two night stay with us in October. Unfortunately, I am unable to ascertain which room you occupied or which weekend you stayed so I am unable to give you a specific reply relating to the dates you stayed. If you email the hotel directly with this information, I can investigate fully. Generally our two private dining rooms are very popular and it is quite rare to experience any problems with noise. The type of occasions we host are always sit down dinners frequented by guests who enjoy great food and wine and are not normally loud occasions. The hotel enjoys a great location being just a two minute walk to the town centre, however, this can mean that sometimes on a weekend we can experience noise from people passing by but again this isn’t by any means a regular occurrence. I was, however, glad to learn that both the Night Porter and Reception did try and help. If you are able to contact the hotel I would be more than happy to reply directly to you in more detail.

Stayed here after a Xmas party - I got a really good £80 rate as we had eaten in the restaurant (Montys).

Room - good sized, comfortable bed, very clean, nice bathroom.

Location - ideal for Central Cheltenham (shopping, drinking etc)

Breakfast included (At Montys) which was very good.

Parking is a bit of an issue with limited spaces for guests - apart from that one of the best value places to say in Cheltenham.

Thank you for your very kind and positive feedback following your stay. With regards to parking, although the hotel is located very close to the town centre it is very fortunate to have 16 spaces at the back and 14 spaces to the front of the hotel, which at most times is sufficient to meet demand. There is also a public car park opposite which is free from 8pm to 8am.

We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Just had a one nights stay at The George.
Excellent staff throughout - Including warm helpful welcome at reception.

Lovely room - Modern decoration (horrible modern pic which is not hung in right place - just saying!)

Cocktail Bar - Excellent cocktails - Chilli Mojito - yummy !

Restaurant - Great host , very friendly and professional.
Food was of the highest quality - Had seafood platter to start apart from missing razor clams beautifully cooked and well presented.
main course - had Venison - again perfectly cooked beautifully - yummy parsnip mash - well presented - My wife had the duck which again was stunning.

Don't know how we made room for the dessert sharing platter but it was well worth it !

Breakfast was again excellent - service very professional.

Excellent hotel - well worth the money and will use again next time we are in the area.

(ps put a draft/light excluder on bedroom door as big gap at bottom lets quite a lot of light into room from corridor at night)

Room Tip: we had a room facing the front and there was no problem with noise

Stayed for a long weekend and as a base for exploring the Cotswolds. We had a 'Classic' double room, decorated in a contemporary style which however didn't jar with the traditional Georgian features of the hotel. Ideally situated for Cheltenham town centre with plenty of shopping, restaurants, pubs on offer.

Good breakfast and overall an enjoyable stay.

I recently booked a sales conference to be held at the hotel. When you are making arrangements for a group and you require the full facilities and expect them to run perfectly then any mistakes are seen as a reflection on you. Fear not. From start to finish everything was top class. The initial contact who did the organizing , perfect with nothing too much bother. The meal in their brassiere which I have to say was equal to any top London establishment. The room reserved for the conference was fantastic.Attention to detail was first rate. All the staff were polite and helpful. Great value for money. Yes we will be back and for any person reading this review , then fear not and just go and you will also have a great time.

Stayed there through work for a second time. Rooms in good cndition and very clean. In my bathroom, found it difficult to actually get in the shower as the bathroom was pretty small. Its an old terrace which I think was knocked into one and it is full of staircases up and down. If you are not so mobile, worth checking access.

Didnt eat there as very close to lots of places walkable.

Parking was limited, either on street if you are lucky or pay and display

Used the cocktail bar briefly , wasnt verly impressed - one bottled beer on sale? I assume lots of cocktails though. Had to set off early so didnt see a breakfast but they did offer a packed one without being asked, which was good

Would go back though

This is a really fabulous hotel. The staff are extremely helpful, nothing is too much trouble for them. The location is great, a couple of minutes to the town centre. Room service is speedy and the food delicious. We stayed in a junior suite, well worth the extra as the room had everything you could need: fridge, safe, hair dryer, iron etc. nothing to fault the staff or hotel.
