Was really looking forward to our New Years stay but was let down by the hotel. We heard every movement in the room above and could understand conversations pretty clearly. Light shined through the door at night making sleeping difficult. Paid 85 pounds per head for New Years Eve dinner at their Monty`s restaurant and was poor value for money. That is Michelin pricing and knowhere close to delivering, couldn`t even cook a steak properly. Dessert was the only thing which was nice. I emailed to complain of my stay and did not hear a thing, thus this review. On the upside it was clean, had friendly staff and the breakfast was good.

I have never written a review before but I felt strongly that this hotel should receive some credit for what was an outstanding stay for me and my girl friend!
We booked the Junior Suite with a 25% Christmas reduction which made it £132.50 per night including breakfast. The room was lovely with a large bathroom, wet room and stand alone deep bath. The hotel is right next to the shops and parking is ample and free. The hotel has Monty's Brasserie which served excellent food with an excellent bar and live music playing in their basement bar/dance floor.
The staff were friendly and efficient even to the extent that the cleaner found a necklace my girl friend had left and the George are mailing it back to us.
Location, food, room, staff and price all contributed to making our 2 night stay so memorable that we are looking forward to staying again soon!

Lovely (small) hotel with limited parking, very reasonably priced. Fresh cooked breakfast with plenty of choice - served at the table. Only complaint, if any was that a table for four at breakfast was too small to take all the breakfast plates and crockery! Convenient for all the shopsand lovely restaurant called 'Monty's' Fab hotel!

Stayed one night on a sightseeing stay in Cheltenham. Excellent situation being 2 minutes from the centre. Friendly staff showed us to a very comfortable, modern room. Despite having function events, the room was quiet but we were at the back - may not be the same for a room at the front.
Breakfast was in the adjoining hotel restaurant and excellent. fresh fruit and beautifully cooked main dishes.
Highly recommended.

Overall, The George is a lovely hotel in a great location. Most of the hotel is excellent, but there were just a few areas that made it slightly less perfect. If these were rectified I think it would get 4/5 star reviews all the time.

We stayed in a deluxe double, mainly due to the reviews of the 'very small' doubles! The room was a good size for a one night stay with two armchairs at the end of the bed. Decor is contemporary but not cold or soulless like some rooms I've stayed in. Bathroom fittings are luxurious. However, considering that the rooms are recently refurbished, some of the painted walls are really grubby and this does take the edge off what would otherwise be very plush!

Having said that - these are fairly minor things and they certainly didn't spoil our stay. In fact I was so impressed with the decor in our room that I have found the same wallpaper so I can redecorate my bedroom at home!! Other plus points are the lollipops on reception (cola flavoured are best !!), the lovely brasserie menu, pleasant staff, excellent cocktail bar with lovely ambience and a great live band playing on Saturday night!

I would definitely come back here for a relaxed and romantic night again.

We stayed at the George Hotel 2 nights in September in a Superior Double room at a discounted rate (25% off) which included breakfast. Although check-in is from 2pm we arrived about 12 and our room was available. Car parking is available at the back of the hotel but the spaces can be on the tight side and there aren’t many (although there did not seem to be a shortage during our stay).

The hotel staff were pleasant, particularly on check-in and during breakfast. We were disappointed with our room which, for a superior double, was on the small side. It would be fine as a standard double but for a superior we definitely expected it to be more spacious. Our room (236) was at the back of the hotel which although lovely and quiet was near the kitchen. When we first arrived the room and especially the bathroom smelled quite strongly of food which was a bit off-putting. Later on the smell had pretty much disappeared so it must just be around midday as they are preparing the food and it was not a problem in the evening.

The bathroom itself was clean and modern but the shower was not powerful at all. The room was clean and decorated in a relatively modern style with a nice big sash window but I feel the hotel photos are a bit misleading as the furniture was not as slick and stylish as you might think from the website. The hotel generally seemed relatively well-maintained apart from the staircase we used up to the first floor which was incredibly dusty/grimy on the bannisters/skirting. This sounds picky and whilst not a major issue it didn't give a good impression and would be so easy to remedy.

The first night we ate in Monty's - the hotel brasserie. The food and wine was great as well as reasonably priced. Breakfast was also served here, again the choice and food itself was pretty good. A couple of reviewers have complained that you have to go next door for breakfast. Not true – although the brasserie caters for the public generally as well as hotel guests it is part of the hotel on the ground floor. The cocktail bar in the basement is also quite atmospheric and serves nice cocktails! On the Friday there was live music - it's a real shame that it wasn't a bit busier as the venue had a great relaxed and laid back vibe.

As a number of reviewers have mentioned, a visit to the Daffodil restaurant in Cheltenham is well worth booking. The restaurant (a converted art deco cinema) is amazing and the food great. We would stay at the George again - it's in the heart of Cheltenham and the shops are within easy walking distance (right next to the Montpellier district where there are some nice bars and designer boutiques although those shops did seem to cater for an older clientele). It's also a short easy drive into the Cotswolds - there are some good walks out and around Winchcombe. At the full price the superior room would be overpriced (as ours was simply a standard double with mineral water and bathrobes) but at the discounted rate it is probably value for money.

We were attending a wedding in a village a few miles away from Cheltenham and were booking last minute. We stayed on a Saturday night.

Found the hotel through lastminute.com for £88 B&B the night before we arrived. After looking on trip advisor we went for a small small double even though someone had commented on how tiny these rooms were. We chose this as cheaper and knew we were only staying 1 night.

We were very pleasently suprised at the size. Room was very clean and nicely decorated, bed extremely comfortable, bathroom was not brand new but nice. Would definately have a small, small room again - even if staying for a week. These rooms are at the back of hotel so no noise problems.

Parking was easy as lots of spaces, however don't think hotel was full at all!

NIght porter met us with a smile at 1am and seemed to have no problem with the takeaway food we had brought back!

Breakfast was fantastic in Monty's. Meant to finish at 10am but guests still coming in then and staff very accomodating.

Would definately go back again.
