We had a one night stopover, beautifully decorated and restored building and lovely room. We stayed in an 'excellent' room which was large and beautifully and stylishly renovated with lovely high quality touches. I would say Babington House standard at least. Great lighting, great toiletries, flask of hot chocolate left at turn down etc.
Ate in the restaurant which we enjoyed.
The service from Eva on reception was really outstanding , we arrived much later than we thought and had phoned ahead. She was sort of waiting for us, helped with bags, parking, making sure we got to the room and then dinner while we were faffing between me and my husband , fabulous attitude.
She didn't know, but we were on our way to a funeral, with slightly complicated arrangements for leaving our kids behind, her attitude made everything seem so much easier.
Will definitely come back, as it would make a fab weekend away.

We stayed at 131 last night and it was fabulous, probably the best hotel I've stayed in; not only was it amazing value but the service was second to none and the hotel gloriously styled and furnished. The little touches like a warm hot water bottle, flask of hot milk and hot chocolate sticks left in our room as part of the turn down service made it a really lovely stay.

We had dinner in the restaurant which was top notch, not cheap but really great (the fillet steak and beef dripping chips were to die for).

All in all we had a great time and will definitely be back.

This has become my favourite place in Cheltenham, reminds me of London. My only wish is, that they make it members only and if that doesn't get rid of the riff raff who frequent the place, then double the prices.

The place is fab, doorman great, Charli a delight. Please consider the above guys.

Beautiful venue, good (not amazing) food let down by a staff member who was just a server. In a venue like this you expect the service to enhance the experience and it didn't. Had a drink at the bar then got seated at a TINY table, next to a wall and so close to the next table we may as well have joined them for dinner. Waitress came over with water and then we didn't see her for another 20 minutes during which time the two tables after us had ordered and received their drinks and also ordered food. Luckily the sommelier asked if we would like some drinks! Food was good and we were asked if "everything was ok" I hate that....it's so mediocre and that's how I feel about the evening. They really need to up their service standards and train the team to make the experience, good food can be ruined by bad people and ok food can be overcome by a great experience. I don't expect to make friends with the waiter but it does need to be a bit personal. I would go for drinks but not for dinner, The Tavern is a far superior experience.

Even though I am a regular contributor to tripadvisor as a professional in this world I treat many of the reviews with caution. It always seems so odd that many of the bad reviews are submitted by contributors with just one or two reviews, invariably this suggests other hoteliers or restaurateurs attempting an assassination attempt.

A couple of the reviews of this place suggest just that.

Because it is nothing short of sensational, attention to detail is incredible,my magazine will feature a full review shortly. Over the years I have visited and reviewed many places and 131 is firmly in my top three.

Great staff, great room, sensational bath room, fantastic artwork, amazing coffee table books ( including one of mine) difficult to know where to stop....if you only ever stay in one hotel ,make it this one..

Just back from an amazing nights stay at No 131 for my birthday. A breathtaking beautiful and quirky boutique hotel in the centre of Cheltenham with everything on your doorstep, parking permit given on arrival to park in the road behind the hotel - ideal. The reception lady Ewa and General Manager Steve made us feel so very welcome and special. Our Excellent Room 6 was gorgeous and massive with a roll top bath in the room big enough for two and a double ensuite shower. Every little detail was thought of with hot water bottles, bottled water, hot chocolate, wonderful toiletries and orange and croissants/papers delivered to our room before we headed down for breakfast which was delicious and exceptional value for money. The team at No 131 were so attentive, friendly and highly professional - nothing was too much trouble. We will be raving to all our friends to come and stay.

Room Tip: Excellent Room 6 is amazing!
