“A very enjoyable one night stay.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 June 2011

My wife and I recently stayed here on a Sunday night deal, spend £75 get a room for £10. We actually upgraded to a superior room for an extra £10. This was very good value and we were very impressed with the size of the room, the bathroom was huge with a large walk in shower and free standing bath. Comfortable bed. The evening meal was reasonable and the service efficient. The only suggestion/comment that I would make is that the wine list lacks reasonably priced middle range wine. There is a house red and a white Chardonnay for around £16.50 the next decent white was a Chilean Sauvignon Blanc at £28 which is very expensive for what it is. More expensive than Gidleigh Park! Why they can't have a decent range of wines for just under £20 is beyond me. They would sell more if the price was reasonable! The hotel is well located and parking for us was not an issue as we were staying on a Sunday evening. Highly recommended would stay again.

Stayed here for one night on a short weekend break. I had an executive room with breakfast included. The hotel is located in the better part of Cheltenham with a good selection of restaurants located a fairly short walk away.

I was very pleased with the room, it was of good size and the bathroom was huge with quite possibly the biggest shower I have seen in a hotel. The staff on reception and in the bar were pleasant and they make a decent Espresso Martini. Breakfast was good quality with both a full English and Continental selection.

Only gripes as others have said is the small TV in the room and the limited parking, I got into the last space available luckily. Wifi is also only free for 30 minutes at a time.

Having eaten at the restaurant in the hotel numerous times, the hotel was our chosen destination for an overnight stay celebrating a special occassion. The rooms absolutely lived up to and in many ways exceeded our expectations but once again the service in the restaurant was not what it should be. I think the fact that the hotel has the glorious bar area in which to "hold" waiting dining customers means the punctuality in the restaurant can be allowed to slip - if there was a visible queue of people waiting for their table, rather than being scattered around the bar, it wouldn't be acceptable. When in the restaurant, once again the service was slow - our reservation was at 9pm and our main course was served at about 10.20pm. Not the end of the world but I expect better for what ended up being a £115, 2 course meal (incl 1 bottle of wine).

This is a fine hotel, similar to other HdV hotels located through the UK.

The main positive features are a lively bar, very good bistro and the excellent staff in the spa.

The big draw back is that there is very little on site car parking, and no system to reserve that parking for hotel guests. Street parking nearby is very restricted. Staff were not much help, in that respect.

The room is a fairly standard HdV room (which is quite a high standard for provincial England), good stand alone bath, decent bed, walk in shower and enough room. The TV was very small ( I wanted to watch the cup final !).

Room Tip: Don't travel by car, use the Spa and Bistro.

Though it was a while back it must go on the record. A couple of months after staying here I got a letter saying we had drunk a bottle of wine they had not charged for, and that they had charged it to my credit card. Their letter had no stamp so I was charged excess postage. I called and wrote to complain but got nowhere. For the price of a bottle of wine there was a limit to how hard I was prepared to fight it so I let it go. But will we go back? What do you think?

We stayed at the HDV for one night on Easter Sunday on a dinner, bed and breakfast package.

We stayed in an executive room which was spacious an dairy; the bed was huge and comfortable and the free standing bath in the bedrom was a great touch. My only minor grips about the room is that the flat screen TV was very small for such a small room. When laying on the bed, the screen was miles away!

Pre-dinner drinks in the bar were very good and the choice extensive - they did take a while to arrive considering there were only 2 other people in the bar!

Dinner was great, the restaurant was buzzing - we shared the seafood platter to begin which was excellent (although, only one oyster is a bit strange on a dish designed to share!), followed by beautiful steaks. Again, the wine took a long to to arrive as arrived after our food.....

Breakfast was also really good and we enjoyed it sat outside in the courtyard.

Overall, a great hotel an dworth the DBB rate and I will definitely go again
