Hotel du Vin Cheltenham

The only thing French about the Hotel du Vin is the great Wine List in the restaurant (and it stretches beyond French wines) - the rest is a true market leader in British hospitality (other chains - wake up and take note). From the classic, well thought out and comfortable design, to the friendly, attentive service - this place is a real winner. No stuffy Reception Desk on arrival - just a 'low', old fashioned writing desk and a friendly welcome. My room was not massive, but was well designed, with a large bathroom. Stand out points were the fresh coffee presses (when will other hotels stop serving instant coffee...), rain shower head, and the oversized bathroom amenities. Only one small negative - the sink was quite a shallow design and therefore not great for shaving. The bar has sumptuous sofas to flop into and the restaurant offers a wonderful selection of 'classics' - both of which are staffed by a friendly and attentive Team. A first class experience. I can't wait for my next visit to a Hotel du Vin.

This one does not quite live up to the rest of the chain... having stayed at the one in Bristol I was less than impressed. The Outside is chic enough.. exuding Regency grandeur. The inside has been styled but it looks too much like a Gentleman's club and a bit dark. Room was nice and big but no bath... which was disappointing.. they should have asked me to request it when booking to avoid disappointment.

The room on the 2nd floor was locate need the extractor from the kitchen.. so if the window was open smell of chips wafted in..

The restaurant was large and bistro styled But the service and food overall was a bit of a let down for the price..Mains were small and not quite right. First course arrived before wine and so on..

On arrival we were met with a beautiful and immaculate hotel. Our rooms were of good size, well decorated and had all the facilities you could want. Was very impressed with the bar especially the wine list (although with the name this is to be expected). Service in the restaurant however was slow and slapdash we all commented on how we felt that we were an inconvenience to some of the waiting staff and how it took several attempts to gain someone's attention. The food was passable although two of us felt it was overcooked, and tasteless although dessert was to die for.

Overall a great place to stay and drink but next time we will dine somewhere else

The whole hotel stay was wonderful, we arrived and were greeted by very helpful reception staff, the lady took us to our room gave us a tour, then she offered us an upgrade for £40. We had a look and decided to go for it as it was really lovely, huge bed and a bathroom big enough to hold a party in!. The staff in the restaurant were very professional and helpful. The spa is super offering free massage chairs and steam room. Would go back in a heart beat.

A day at the races and a night at the Hotel du Vin. We may have bombed out at the races but the hotel was a winner. It's a character-full hotel with excellent staff. The room we had was spacious and modern without losing anything in the comfort stakes. Gorgeous bathroom with acres of room. The restaurant serves excellent food in again a modern yet comfortable setting. The best bit for me though was the whisky menu and the Irish pot still whiskey in particular. A little more expensive than we normally go for but well worth the experience. For shoppers it's quite close to some interesting different independent shops. Cheltenham itself was better than we expected and well worth the visit.

The usual high standards of this hotel chain. We were upgraded to an executive room - beautiful and large. I have never had so many baths and showers in a weekend! Hard choice between the deep free standing bath or the walk in Monsoon shower. Ate one evening and really enjoyed our meal - wine as usual pricey - but that's what you expect in a hotel of this quality. Can't wait to try the other hotels in this chain.

We booked a 1 night stay here using the telephone booking number. We were given an excellent rate including breakfast & vat - just £145. This was a considerable saving over the internet price.
We struggled a bit to find the hotel, but we arrived eventually. The hotel is in a really nice area of Cheltenham, just a 5/10 minute walk from the Promenade shopping area. The building is fantastic and obviously a lot of money has been spent on the refurbishment. Check in was easy, and we were taken to our room on the top floor. The room was small but we expected that for the price that we had paid. It was very nice, very comfortable with an excellent bad and excellent linens. The mini bar was very nice and contained items that you would actually use like kettle chips, fresh milk to make tea and filter coffee for the cafitiere.
We had afternoon tea in the hotel which was excellent value and one portion could easily be shared amongst 2 people. Unfortunately we were unable to book a table in the evening for dinner, but breakfast the following morning has to be one of the best ever. The English Breakfast was all cooked fresh with premium ingredients. Very, very nice.
I would definitely recommend this hotel.
