“Sophisticated and Great Value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 February 2010

Booked the hotel on-line with the usual type of on-line provider.

Check in was efficient and we were personally shown to our room which was lovely. Obviously when you book last minute on line you dont expect the best rooms. However we were pleasantly surprised. The room was a good size, modern, clean and with a huge comfortable bed. There were also plenty of products in the bathroom.

Free internet for 30 minutes was extremely useful as we are looking to relocate to Gloucestershire.

The hotel itself is modern, bright and vibrant. There is a lovely light fitting in the bar area made of upturned wine glasses.

We only ate breakfast in the hotel which was delicious. There was a huge choice of cereal, fruit, yoghurt and pastries, plus a delicious range of cooked options, which are cooked to order.

All in all a fabulous stay and we wouldnt bother looking anywhere else when we stay in Cheltenham again.

Stayed here for one night. Blissful setting with snow falling all around and the street looking picture perfect through the windows of the very comfortably appointed lounge bar. HdV have an offer of paying £25 for room if spending more than £75 in the Bistro. The latter wasn't difficult! The quality of some foods was lacking, especially the steak that lacked flavour though my partner's venison was cooked to perfection. Breakfasts are very expensive and well worth missing. The choice of wines is staggering. The house Champagne isn't much to write home about, the Veuve Clicquot beat it hands down. Similarly the house Touraine Sauvignon (which we were told was a corporate, not a local choice) is flabby. Had some excellent Argentinian reds.
The Bedroom was nicely fitted out and the shower was in the style of a wetroom. The bath was great to get into..not so easy to get out after a large meal!

We stayed here whilst on our way to Cornwall. The last stay at this chain was at the Harrogate Hotel du Vin. We enjoyed the stay then and were looking forwarding to starting our long weekend here. As ever with Hotel du Vin/Malmasion hotels the decor and entrance and overall design were excellent . From there on the overnight stay was a succession of disappointments; service in the bar was indifferent for the majority of the time and positively rude at worst. (Little English was spoken by the staff which didnt help).
The food in the bistro was the biggest disappointment, (as was evident in several areas, it felt as though their accountants had gone through every facit of the business and stripped everthing down), starters were unedible, mains mostly tastless and left uneaten. Nobody enquired why. Breakfast again, cheap ingredients poorly cooked. Have they outsourced the cooking to Cafe Rouge?
The service was faux, like dining in a Disney theme restaurant all fake and insincere, drilled smiles, unable to accommodate the most simple request that deviated from their, "manual".
The rooms had also been visited by the accountants, no tissues, no cotton buds etc.
I feel that this hotel is symbolic of Cheltenham, (how one reviewer can refer to Montpellier Parade as "posh" really beggars belief , its a dirty scruffy street!), living off its former glory..............well below par.

This is a nice, comfortable hotel close to the posh (Montpellier) end of Cheltenham. Hotels du Vin always have a certain style and this is no exception. You will not find the mega-facilities of a chain hotel - thank goodness - but you will find an interesting and original conversion of a historic building, furnished in the modern style and with loads of character.
What particularly impressed me was the breakfast. Fresh ly squeezed orange juice, different types of bread, jam and butter in dishes, not nasty little plastic things, a decent sized grilled kipper, poached pears (yes - for breakfast, try it) and all the usual cereals and fruit. Excellent Greek yogurt too, and really first class coffee - a rare thing in hotels in my experience. This really was the perfect breakfast.
Although parking on site is limited, the hotel reserved me a place for which I was especially grateful at 9 pm when I arrived in the fog and snow of a Cheltenham winter's night.

What a fantastic room, the bedroom and the bathroom were both huge and the bathroom had a seperate wet room to the main bathroom which had a lovely roll top bath. And all very tastefully decorated. The bed was also huge and very comfortable with wonderfully crisp linen. This room was a real pleasure to stay in and I didn't want to leave. The only downside of this hotel are the poor standards in the restaurant. I've eaten here several times before and it's always a huge disappointment, the kitchen has no idea what they're doing which is a shame as I've had some great experiences at other Hotel du Vin's. However, despite this I would recommend it as a base to stay in and to find a restaurant elsewhere!

We stayed here for one night in early January, in the Grand Dame which was a fantastic room which had twin bath tubs, with two flat screen tv's, which can be swivelled to view from the tubs, the bed, or the lounge areas. Our only 'niggle' relates to the restaurant. There were two large parties of 20+ (one of these in the private dining area), and although the dining room was only half full, the kitchen did not seem able to cope. Our table was booked for 8pm, we went to the bar at 7pm and told the restaurant staff we would be ready to dine at 8pm. Come 8pm we were ignored and at 8.20pm we had to ask if our table was ready. After a bit of 'two'ing & frow'ing' by a member of staff we were eventually led to our table, but again had to wait sometime for attention. After placing the order we had to wait a considerable length of time for the starters, and did not receive our main courses until 9.30 pm. A starter of goats cheese and beetroot arrived in a broken pastry basket, and whilst edible, the presentation left a lot to be desired, for main we both had pan fried Sea Bass, which was over cooked & served with a miniscule portion of parsnip and spinach. Due to the length of time we waited for the food, we were not prepared to send the food back to risk waiting again!. We have stayed and eaten in a number of Hotel Du Vin across the country, and this is the first time we have experienced a below excellent standard in their restaurants.
Myself and my husband both had relaxing treatments at the hotel Spa and the experience was wonderful with attentive, knowledgeable staff and well equipped treatment rooms.

We stayed at Hotel Du Vin Cheltenham for one night on a cold November Thursday. The rooms (I checked out 3 in all as various members of my family were also staying) were all excellent (Standard class) with very comfortable beds, excellent showers, and all the general things you would expect from a top hotel. The Staff through out our stay provided a good prompt service, the Bar like the rooms and the rest of the hotel is very stylish and a pleasure to visit. Breakfast was expensive but very delicious. The hotel is conveniently located close to the centre of town and the Montpelier district. We really could not have hoped for more from a hotel.
