“Less than wowed, good location”
Reviewed 14 September 2010

It was OK, the rooms were very grey in theme, a bit dated in style, and poorly lit. The hyped roll topped bath in room was there, but given it was in front of a window overlooking the patio with tables and the public car park, you either had to bathe with the curtains closed or get in and out with the world able to watch. As it was summer and did'nt get dark until 8pm a major flaw easily solved if they had bothered to have some voile curtains to pull over the window but no feeling the staff cared. It was an executive room so 3 up from standard but apart from the size just not special, messy furniture, pushing products as viewed from bed.

The public spaces rather cramped either the bar or restaurants. Not as chic as the 3 the Malmaison sister properties I've stayed in.

Similarly the restaurant was 3/4 empty (it was a Monday night) and again food adequate but nothing special.

Did'nt wow me I'm afraid.

The hotel is just a few strides from the main Montpellier and shopping area for restaurants, wine bars, etc.
The hotel reception were very efficient, the hotel itself wasvery well appointed.
We booked the smallest room which was small, and the bathroom was definately single person only, but the room and the bathroom had absolutely everything you could possibly need and was very well decorated in a contempory style.
We did eat in the restaurant were the service was good and efficient, the food was OK, the winelist huge!

Generally this is quite a good place - it is well appointed, smartly styled. Our room was quiet, and mostly comfortable.

However, we had paid to stay in a slightly uprated room, and found on arrival that we had the bog standard one. After hauling our bags and 10 month old up stairs and along corridors, we couldn't be bothered to switch, so they knocked £20 off the bill. The room was too small for 2 adult and baby though (and I needed t duck the low sloping ceiling)

The hotel charges £10 for a cot, but don't tell you this on the web site - though the concierge did call a day before and told us about this. Also, we were asked if we wanted a paper in the morning, but were not told that they charge for it (not a big deal, but a little annoying). Also, the free internet lasts for 30 minutes, and you have to keep signing back in. These aren't things I expect in decent hotels, really

Parking is a joke, as the hotel has about 10 spaces out front.

So there were some errors in service, and some small hidden costs, but generally good. If there was a 3.5 star rating, that is what I would give it.

We stayed at Hotel du Vin last weekend celebrating my partner's 50th birthday. I booked us an Executive Room, but was offered an upgrade that morning. We had no idea that this would be their best room, the Moet Vintage suite. If you can - BOOK THIS!

We could not fault the staff, extremely efficient and gently human at the same time. They anticipated our every need, even when they were really busy, and really looked after us. If it is possible to feel at home in a hotel, then this is it.

The decor is spectacular, and lots of lovely touches that make you smile. There was no skimping on the hotel toiletries which you are encouraged to take with you and I suspect that this extended to other rooms too.

We will definitely be back and would recommend this to everyone we meet.

Beautiful, spacious rooms with incredible bathrooms, good air conditioning, free wifi and comfortable beds. Visiting hotel to celebrate mother's birthday in Bistro. Booked two rooms using Sunday night stay and dine offer for £45 for room if spend £75 in Bistro. It was easy to spend this much in the Bistro, and the food was good but not spectacular. Also, restaurant staff are not particularly keen to decorate the table themselves; had to buy my own balloons and blow them up myself... Think even McDonald's provide balloons for birthdays held in their restaurant...

Reception staff were a bit unfriendly, but perhaps because we were travelling with a toddler and the usual clientele are couples. The toddler loved the room more than we did though!

All in all would recommend the hotel, and the rooms were more spacious than the Cambridge Hotel du Vin.

We visited this hotel for a couple of nights as a treat having visited the Hotel Du Vin in Brighton in the past. We were not disappointed. Our room was enormous with a roll top bath in the room and a huge wet room. Everything was spotlessly clean and very comfortable.

My husband had arranged for me to have a facial in the spa which was a great little treat. We also took advantage of the steam room which was located in the same area.

We ate in the restaurant on both evenings having booked bed, breakfast and dinner. I found the food to be of an excellent standard. I am vegetarian and had no problem finding something delicious on the menu on both nights. The wine list is extensive if a little on the expensive side. There is a sommelier available to advise should you need any assistance with the mind boggling range.

The staff were all excellent without exception. They really do a wonderful job at making you feel at home and are a real credit to the hotel.

We didn't have any problem parking although we could not fit into the two small hotel car parks (one at the front and one to the rear). We managed to find a parking space on the road just outside.

My only criticism would be that our room was a bit too warm but it was a very warm weekend and we could have used the air con a bit more.

I would not hesitate in returning here again in the future and would certainly recommend to friends and family.

Firs things first - I travel a lot so am very picky when it comes to hotels who position as up market.

We stayed at the HDV Cheltenham for 2 nights over the weekend. The weather at the time was very hot and we were thankful that the hotel had good quality aircon that kept the rooms cool. I was playing about 180/night which is reasonably expensive for a hotel in these parts.

Pros of the hotel: Very nice location in Cheltenham town - short walk to the shops etc, rooms are individual and very nicely finished, the communal areas felt up market. Food in the restaurant was very good albeit a tad pricey.

Cons: Parking is a nightmare near the hotel. We had to park almost 10 mins walk away on Saturday afternoon. Reception check-in and check-out were slow - they were just too light staffed. No facilities like a gym/pool. The outside area for the bar/restaurant was like an old back yard and on the Saturday the council were digging up the municipal car park behind the hotel so you could not hold a conversation over breakfast. The under floor heating in the bathroom was on constantly despite it being 30C+ outside.

All in all I would return (on leisure) to the HDV Cheltenham and will visit other hotels in this chain. They are very good hotel but just that - hotels. If I was traveling on business I would not stay at this hotel because it lacks the basic things I need for a stay like a gym or pool for working out.
