“great atmosphere, great food”
Reviewed 18 December 2013 credit card Amex Cardmember Review

The Art Deco cinema space is perfect for dining, airy high and beautiful.
Service is excellent and the food is top class - I always enjoy the tasty little soup starters - fish is always a good choice and the presentation is Masterchef.
One of my favourite places in the area

“A rather droopy Daffodil”
Reviewed 16 December 2013

Once where there were open tables for two or three with a view of the chefs on the stage the change to extremely high backed banquette seating now obscures any sighting and the once uninterrupted view of this remarkable art deco restaurant, from where we were sitting, was limited. I was offered a dining chair which was appreciated but declined as I would have been unable to hear my guests speaking as the restaurant, only to be expected close to Christmas, was both busy and noisy.

We chose from the Christmas party menu and the cheese souffle I ordered was delicious but there were a couple of small bones in the pheasant. The treacle tart unfortunately had exceedingly crisp pastry and although we received coffee the accompaniment of mince pies and stolen bites, remembered by us only after we’d left, never materialised

Apart from a delicious cheese souffle the other courses was just okay and the treacle tart had tasteless and exceedingly crisp pastry. Although we received coffee the accompaniment of mince pies and stolen bites, remembered by us only after we’d left, never materialised

I’ve never been able to fault The Daffodil before but for a small birthday celebration close to Christmas hemmed in my high seating the feeling evoked on leaving was not one of elation as it has been on previous visits.

“Beautiful Setting & AMAZING food!”
Reviewed 15 December 2013

We arrived at The Daffodil last night for my Husband's Works Christmas meal.. The 6 of us were greeted at the desk, our coats taken and it was made known to us that we would be collected from the bar upstairs when our table was ready for us.
4 of us had Cocktails - An Old Cuban, Mint Julep, Vespa and I had a Pina Colada. Absolutely delicious and the Pina Colada was HUGE! Recommend them!
The waiter who took our drinks order was so, so polite and very informative.
When our table was ready we were led to a booth that over looked the rest of the restaurant, which was lovely..The staff were very attentive and we couldn't of asked for better service, nothing seemed to be too much trouble.
The food was the best I've ever eaten! A lovely time was had by all in a stunning building with great company and brilliant service!

“Not as good as past visits”
Reviewed 14 December 2013 via mobile

The daffodil has been around for a few years now, and has been in that time a stand out restaurant in the area.

Unfortunately, in our most recent visit, the food just wasn't as good as we expected.

The interior ambience remains unique and buzzy, the old art decco cinema creating a great stage for a restaurant. The service st the bar is a little slow, but it was busy so we can forgive them that. The cocktails are good and there is an excellent wine list.

It was the main meal that was disappointing however. We went for the chateaubriand for 4 of us. In the past I'd rated this meal as one of the best I'd ever had. A lovely fillet, served whole, cooked to perfection (rare).

Unfortunately that is not what we got. The chateaubriand was served as a couple of steaks, rather than as a fillet. The quality of the meat wasn't as great as expected, with more fat than I would like, and whilst it was served rare, it was only just!

This is supposed to be the jewel in the Daffodil's crown, and it is priced accordingly. Sadly on this visit it just wasn't that brilliant!

“Fantastic worth a visit .”
Reviewed 8 December 2013

We went along to the daffodil one Saturday afternoon with a friend who regularly visits while in Cheltenham .
I have to say that this building is beautifully restored , what used to be a art Nuevo cinema is now this well presented restaurant.
Inside you have 2 areas that you can eat, upstairs in half moon booths that over look the main eating area on the ground floor and the kitchen , and down stairs is the main restaurant area in front of the main stage area.
The stage area is where they have a live jazz band playing over the lunch /afternoon period , then directly behind the stage is a open kitchen allowing you to see them preparing your meal
We had a starter , main and desert with a bottle of champagne . All courses came well presented and tasted beautiful.
The staff are friendly and polite , and service is excellent. You must give this place a try.
TIP....... You must book in advance as always full.
Steak is a must along with any fish dish.
And if you just want something light after lunch service they do afternoon tea , this is very popular and comes with selection of sandwiches , cakes with cream and glass of champagne all at a very reasonable £17 pounds .
