Had a lovely lunch with my family on a Saturday lunchtime. We sat in the restaurant waiting for family & were well looked after with water, drinks & menus. We were offered a lovely large round table, it was very comfortable. There was a good choice & we were also offered the menu for lighter meals. The service was good and so was the food. One teeny criticism is that there might have been a little more fish in the fish cakes. We all enjoyed our meals, the service was good but not too intrusive. The room was very cosy and attractive. We will be returning.

Having not booked anywhere to eat during the very busy race week in Cheltenham, I called to enquire about table availability.
I was help politely and efficiently; advised that bookings were not taken for groups smaller than six. I was again helped with some advise regarding the restaurants opening times any if i was to turn up as the restaurant section opened, it was very likely my guest and i would be successful.
The bar area was comfortable and had a good vibe, the guest ale was well kept and served in the brewers own designed glasses, nice touch, and although higher end at £4 per pint, we enjoyed.
As per the advice, we were seated politely and quickly to a table (of our choice) and were served in a respectful manner. The service afterwards was discreet, non intrusive and probably about right for us.
The starters tried were tasty and both 'risking' a steak for main (risking as often disappointed by steaks these days) were very pleasantly surprised. Very enjoyable! Both agreed the steaks required better seasoning, but overall were very pleased with the evening. As such another visit is planned soon.

It obviously ticks the box for many people ...
We have not eaten here for a while and won't be in the near future but there were plenty of people there so it just proves that you can't please all the people.
We were asked quite quickly for a drinks order but after that the service was "discreet" - if that means no-one came near us, asked about the food, if we wanted anything etc.
The wine arrived reasonably quickly in a cooler and left on the table. No offer to taste just do it yourself. We are quite capable of pouring a glass ourselves but it is unusual not to have at least the first glass poured for you.
We went straight for mains which were ok but nothing special - lamb rump with colcannon. Fairly simple but the lamb was not particularly tasty and was quite tough. Vegetables are not included and were not inspirational (cabbage, carrots & broccoli) and this obviously bumps up the price (e.g. nearly £19 for Belly Pork).
Desserts were a mixed bag e.g. meringue with clotted cream, whipped cream, ice cream & sauce sounds like a diabetic nightmare. I'm not sure what the definition of a Torte is but the Tiramisu & Amaretto Torte was more like a flat slice of biscuit base with brown blancmange not like any Torte I have ever had. At £6.75 each not at the lower end of the market either.
At the end of the night it was a good evening, due to the Company and wine (!!), but, in our opinion, not somewhere to rush back to.
But it's always busy ...

This is the first time that we tried Moran's. When we entered the restaurant, we were approached by a scowling waiter who asked where we would like to sit and pointed to a couple of tables. Before we had time to sit down and remove our coats he barked at us "What do you want to drink" I think this guy needs to watch Michel Roux's program on service. We ordered our drinks and then it got better as a very pleasant waiter took our order. The food is very average and overpriced for the quality. The desserts are a joke! We will not be going there again. There is very little choice of decent food on the Bath Rd. Thank goodness for Montpelier!

Went for a light lunch and found this could be served in bar or main restaurant. Latter much more comfortable and food as always excellent.Good service and peaceful atmosphere when the bar was packed. Will go more often now I know that the restaurant is open at lunch times. This really an exellent place and only marginally more expensive than many lesser places in Cheltenham.
