“Perfect honeymoon cottage!”
Reviewed 21 April 2011

We have had our honeymoon here and it was lovely, so quite and peaceful! Emma was so kind and friendly and couldn't have made us feel more welcome! The cottage we had was Cottage 1 and it was really nice, quite modern with an old fashion feel to it, everything we needed was there, very close to the town so easy for walking about and close to lovely restaurants. Will defiantly be visiting again!

My granddaughter and two of the bridesmaids for my daughter's wedding staying at the Minstrels cottage.. even though you had to climb stairs to get to it .. it was well worth it. Very modern and clean and offers a washing machine, state of the art shower, and a wonderful soaking tub upstairs. There were 4 bedrooms with queen size beds and two very good sized bathrooms. The living area was very comfortable with two couches and the attached diningroom very convenient. The kitchen was stocked with all cooking supplies and a few staples until we could get to the grocery store. The location was very good... if you didn't want people partying under your window and you also didn't hear the road traffic since the cottages are located about a block off the main street. It was a very nice walk to where ever you had to go. Very central. All in all, being our first time in England we would recommend this cottage as a delightful accomodation. The draw back was no screens on the windows, no airconditioning, and no dishwasher. Very minor compared to all the plus'ses this cottage had to offer.

We choose this place because Moreton-in-Marsh was on the train line from London's Paddington Station, and this was only a short walk from the train line. We were very happy with our choice.
After the hustle and bustle of London it was very pleasant to settle into a home-like atmosphere. The cottage had a kitchen, dining area, small living room, terrace, two beds, and a balcony. It was all recently redone, warm and cosy. It was great to be able to cook our own meals, do laundry, etc.
Moreton in Marsh is a lovely little town, with nice walking trails. You can take short, cheap bus rides to Stow in the Wold, Bourton on Water, and other nearby villages, and take long, lovely country walks from there, some to historic sites. The local information center has handy trail maps, schedules, and descriptions, so you don't need to plan much beforehand. There is a well-stocked grocery store, good pubs and restaurants.
Railway Cottages is a family business and they were very pleasant and helpful.
The decor was a bit heavy on artificial flowers and knick-knacks for my taste, but this was minor quibble. Loved the stone floors, though, and the general look and feel. All in all good value and a great location.

We travelled by train from London, so found the close proximity of the station very useful. Emma was extremely helpful with arrangements regarding keys/arrival times etc. We did get a good explanation of the appliances on arrival. We found the cottage to be lovely and spacious and although we did very little cooking, the kitchen was adequately equipped. The lounge and bedrooms were comfortable; good bathroom, and definitely a cottage that would work very well for a family. The town centre was so close, and it was a very quick stroll to the small supermarkets for supplies. We did not have a car and took a Cotswolds tour from Oxford, but would definitely recommend Railway Cottages and Moreton-in-Marsh as an excellent find for those without a car.

Our whole experience was great. From the beginning everything was made easy for us. Booking the holiday was very simple, and Emma was extremely helpful - she even went out of her way to suggest some places that we could visit during our stay with them. When we arrived there was a welcome hamper there waiting for us, with everything we needed to welcome us to our holiday location, so that we wouldn’t have to rush out and get bits and pieces. We loved all the solid oak beams, and the whole decor and homely feel of the cottage. The rooms were great, and very comfortable, we especially liked the bathroom, the whirlpool bath, and power shower were great, and very relaxing! The location is perfect - it’s right in the centre of the town, and yet very quiet and peaceful, with car parking on site. Everything that you need is to hand, whether it be shops, pubs, places to eat or transport. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay there, and have already booked to go back again - can’t wait

We stayed in Railway Cottage No. 2 in August. Organising the trip was simple and the family who own the property were really helpful - especially Emma. The property is in a good location and despite being so close to the station we didn't once hear a train. The "centre" of Moreton is only a 1 minute walk away from the cottage. The cottage was adequately furnished and the handmade wooden furniture is beautiful. The bathroom has a separate shower unit plus a spa bath. Although the spa bath is a great luxury (but we didn't get chance to use it) it makes the bathroom feel quite small and pretty difficult to bath a baby in as the sides were so high.

The only down sides worth noting - there's no garden with the cottage and the sofa bed which is positioned as the main sofa in the living room isn't very comfy and doesn't really "fit" with the rest of the decor.

Definitely not aiming at the luxury end of the market but a comfortable and cosy stay nonetheless.

We stayed at the Railway Apartments for 2 days in early September. We found Moreton-In-Marsh an excellent base for cycling to places such as Snowshill and Chipping Campden. Paul at the Toy Shop, just 100 metres down the road (on the High Street) hired us 2 great bikes, and we thoroughly enjoyed being out and about in the Cotswolds. We had to dodge a bit of weather though!
MIM is right on a train line from London, and the railway apartments are ideally located, sandwiched between the railway station and the high street, each only 100 or so metres away. MIM has a supermarket and a few eateries – we’d recommend ASK for Italian food and service with a big smile.
We stayed in Cottage 1 at the end of the building, with the balcony and outlook over the lovely corner garden, which also makes a pleasant view from the ground floor lounge area. The Cottage is cosy and well appointed, the bathroom with a very modern shower capsule and good-size spa bath. The kitchen has a good amount of crockery and cooking utensils.
We couldn’t quite call our stay perfect, however. Our arrival orientation was limited and we consequently had a couple of little issues with the bathroom, TV, internet and washing machine, but these were soon sorted.
Putting these few things aside though, we still found the Apartment a lovely place to stay and a lovely cottage to return to after each day spent witnessing the quintessential Englishness of the gorgeous Cotswolds!
