Redesdale Arms Hotel
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 7 February 2012

To take a countryside holiday in England in January, always lays extra importance on the hotel. We don't like big pretencious hotels, and The Redesdale Arms was just right - a perfect home base from which to tour The Cotswolds, Oxford, Cheltenham and Stratford upon Avon. Our room was warm, the food was very good, and the staff were great - helpful, friendly and attentive - the decanter of sherrt in the room on arrival, was a lovely surprise. We had found a lovely home base, at a good price, and we were very pleased.

Room Tip: We were happy to have a room at the back of the hotel - it was very peaceful and quiet.

I booked this hotel for a meeting for 12 of us. I was given a lovely, huge room with a window seat overlooking the high street. The heating was on and the whole building was warm. The bed, bedding and pillows were comfortable and of high standard. The room and bathroom was spotlessly clean. Tastefully furnished. There's even complimentary Sherry, should this be your tipple! Gilchrist and Soames toiletries and caddy items such as a nail file were much appreciated. The shower was 'OK' not as modern or powerful as i would have cared for. The lighting on one side of the mirror was not functioning, but these are quite minor, as the overall experience was so good.
The staff were accommodating and friendly. The bar has an open log fire, the only thing out of place, in my opinion was the large TV showing football. It detracted from the 'Olde Worlde' atmosphere somewhat! The dinner service was good, although i think the kitchen was a little overwhelmed that night, as wait times for starters were a little long. Had we not all been talking to each other so much, we would have questioned this. We went on the wine and dine deal, which was excellent value for money. My starter was a terrine, which would have been better had it been taken out of the fridge a little sooner...a tad rigid:) A good selection of bread with oil, balsamic vinegar and butter hit the spot. My main course of slow roasted lamb was delicious and perfectly cooked. The ice cream and sticky toffee pudding were also good. Our waitress Nori was calm and coped marvelously with a load of old 'luvvies'!
Breakfast is buffet service but they will do eggs to order. My poached ones were perfectly runny. To surmise, an excellent pub with rooms/small hotel to which i would return and recommend.

Room Tip: Ask for the room which has a curtain that covert the entrance to it, massive room and bed! Can't...

Paxford room was good but agree with another reviewer in that there isn't enough drawer space, also not ideal for hanging long garments. However, room was spacious, clean and the sherry on the welcome tray was very welcome. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food brilliant: bar food good value and quality, traditional English breakfast buffet excellent quality and well cooked - however, if you insist on dieting, there is fresh, fresh fruit and yoghurt. I hope the planned changes do not destroy the charm of the original features in the breakfast room and bars - walking into the bar in the evening and smelling coal fires and drinking local beer is a treat.
Only a couple of little niggles; the heating system is not flexible so the room was insanely hot (in January! Had to have the door open several times, hence the "Average" rating of sleep quality, otherwise would have been "Very Good" as the bed was huge and comfy) and the extractor didn't work in the en-suite but reported it and they were on to it.

We have recently stayed, yet again, at the Redesdale. As ever, very efficient and friendly, the room was superb and very clean and the food and service excellent. Moreton in Marsh is an excellent base to explore the Cotswolds.

Only stayed one night for a friend's birthday party in nearby hotel. Pleasantly surprised by friendliness of reception, ability to check in early (as room had been vacated by previous occupant), cleanliness and facilities within the room.

Shower was hot, powerful and spotlessly clean. Bed was clean, comfortable and huge.
Complimentary sherry in the room was a nice touch!

Breakfast was plentiful, freshly cooked and wide variety of items.
We only had drinks in the hotel bar so can't comment on the rest of the food served.

Absolutely fantastic hotel and excellent service received from all staff. Very clean and tidy hotel. Bedrooms very roomy, comfortable, especially the rooms within the modern extension to the rear of the hotel. Food in the restaurant is excellent. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone who is visiting the area.

Room Tip: The modern rooms at the rear of the building are excellent.
