“Spacious and clean”
Reviewed 16 July 2013 via mobile

We stayed at Bell Inn for two nights in July 2013 in the Broadway room. The room was clean and spacious. The bathroom needs a bit of TLC. The staff were friendly and approachable. Breakfast which is included in the room price, was very good with few choices. The whole town is unique. The hotel is a very short walk from the rail station. The Market runs on Tuesdays right in front of the hotel, and is quite an attraction for both the locals and tourists. The only problem was the heat wave... No air conditioning and no fans.

Booked early in year to stay in June at the beginning and end of walking the Cotswold Diamond way. When trying to check everything was ok 2 days before arrival was unable to make contact by phone or email. Eventually made contact and there was some confusion over whether we had the booking. As the room was available everything turned out Ok. The room was Ok but considering other places we have stayed a bit over priced for standard. Breakfast was basic. No fruit and we were just given a carton of orange juice on the table to help ourselves.

Hotel itself ok, bit tacky though. Room (Broadway)accessible from outside up wooden steps, room was very spacious and quite clean, bed ok. Breakfast was a bit of a muddle and breakfast area needs a good clean, there was only one menu which had to be shared!!! Some organisation is needed in this hotel. It's overpriced for what it is. We wouldn't stay there again.

Room Tip: Broadway room is spacious and quiet.

Booked by phone fpr 6 adults in two triples , manager advised me he would send confirmation , i called twice to be assured confirmation would be sent but never arrived !
Arrived early evening to be told there was no reservation for our group . I was approached by owner to be told that some one pretending to be me had phoned to cancel the previous day !
He did arrange for some of our party to stay in the Bell inn and some down the road in a B & B , the owner of the B & B said this was not the first time .
Ensure you have booking confirmation !!

This one will baffle me for ever. What the reviewer does not disclose - and I told him at once what had happened - is that I had received a phone call four days earlier cancelling his booking.

One - or both - of us was well and truly done over. We always give confirmation of bookings - in future I will not accept cancellations by phone..

Definitely "mea culpa" but as Mr Gales kindly says everyone was accommodated and yes I do have an arrangement with an excellent local bed and breakfast to which we recommend people when - for whatever reason - I am unable to accommodate

Stayed 2nd April 2013 had lovely room top floor with huge bed. The bar was quiet that night even though they had karaoke on, enjoyed a pint of real ale and a good value bottle of red wine. Loved the room, paid £85 tried to negotiate but not successful but was worth it. Would stay again.

Room Tip: Go for the best room, its the top of the old stable block.

We have just stayed in the cottage attached to the Bell Inn for a short break holiday. The location is perfect, right on the High Street. The cottage would benefit from some TLC, especially the shower room, but it was clean and suited our needs. The beds are very comfortable and there is a pleasant lounge upstairs. We enjoyed the full English breakfast in the Bell, which is part of the package, and found the staff friendly and helpful. Food was not available all evenings, but there are plenty of places nearby - or the kitchen of the cottage is fine for self-catering.

Reviewed 19 February 2013

I went here for Sunday lunch on my way back to Snowshill AND Overbury. It looked fine from the road (a proper looking Cotswold pub in a perfect location). However, things went downhill very quickly. I stood at the bar whilst the very scruffy looking barman slowly drifted between the glasses and the till without even smiling or saying that he'd be with me shortly- there was no welcome or friendly 'nod'. Lunch was simple, just 4 roast dinners (we'd seen the carpet) - I was told that there may be a bit of a wait - fair enough, so I went and sat down a started to look around the place. It was AWFUL inside:

1) Smelly dog sat with a family whilst a seperate couple having lunch looked very cross - country pub or not, this is not acceptable when people are eating!
2) Awful furniture, not cosy or welcoming, filthy carpet, no real fire (it was freezing) and dirty toilets.
3) Bar man dressed like a tramp - pretty basic customer service mistake - even in a pub - wear clean clothes!!!!

The meals were ok, nothing special; with very small portions of roasters and veg. Also, we were not even offered mustard, apple sauce or horseradish - even in a pub up the road in Evesham you would be offered basic condiments like this!!!!!!!!

Anyway, we ate our food quickly, left and we will not be going back! I am not a townee or a Londoner. I live in Tetbury and was raised in the Cotswlods, but this place really is bad even if you are expecting a bog standard British pub! GO ELSEWHERE!!!!
