“Top food”
Reviewed 16 May 2014

While not your typical pub, the emphasis I think being more on the food, what you get is really excellent food. Add to that the character of the place it is just a lovely place to have some quality food. There was also a good choice of ales and the service was brilliant. Well worth a visit.

“Hmm”
Reviewed 24 February 2014

Don't come here if you want to watch a match all the way through or if you want to bring your children. The swearing from other clients coupled with their belief that they can just walk into the pub and change the match when others have been watching another match is not so great.

“So friendly and welcoming”
Reviewed 19 February 2014

We were given a warm welcome, even by the locals there. The bar was dog-friendly and my friends' 2 dogs were made a fuss of. The bar food we had was good value for money and was plentiful and tasty. The large car park at the back is also very handy, especially on market day. .

“I was delighted”
Reviewed 21 January 2014

I supped in the pub two times, a week apart, after sunset in August 2013. Was delighted by the simplicity, the welcome and the food -- its quantity and quality -- as well as the quietly happy, mostly local clientele. My experience matched those of the reviewers in June and July of 2012, see below.

“Not so good !”
Reviewed 30 December 2013

Unfortunately having eaten at the Black Bear on several occasions over the past few years I have found that my last two eating experiences have not been a patch on previous visits. Gammon Egg and chips being my favourite pub meal, when on form the gammon was a good quality thick cut , now just a compressed thin gammon, and cheap economy style chips not the thick steak chips that used to be served, shame really as I used to really look forward to eating at the black bear .
