Number Four at Stow Hotel & Restaurant
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 15 August 2012

I booked this hotel for a short break straight after our wedding and I couldn't have asked for a more perfect setting. The staff were all wonderful and so friendly. The room we stayed in was gorgeous and I loved the way the whole hotel has been designed - it's just beautiful. The restaurant serves a fabulous evening meal - it was the best meal we had in Stow - so definitely worth booking in for dinner. I loved this place and can't wait to go back.

As the heading suggests, our room was far too small for two of us. Too small to open suitcases! So small it may have been designed by a Manhattan architect! It was also noisy in that we could hear people passing by as well as upstairs. The hotel is nice. Nice lounge and bar, nice restaurant but is actually a fair walk from Stow village itself. Indeed we drove up there for dinner and next morning Mr Waterhouse, who is a good runner, found the run up the hill a bit of a struggle.

The owners, two sisters, could not have been nicer but I'm not sure this compensates for the location and extreme smallness of the room.

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel on Trip Advisor and your compliments are very much appreciated. We are sorry to hear that the size of our rooms did not meet with your expectations and perhaps if you are visiting in the future we may suggest one of our suites which does offer more room for large pieces of luggage and a seperate lounge.

We hope you had a safe and pleasant journey back to Australia.

Just returned from an overnight stay at No.4 and really enjoyed our visit. The hotel is first class and has a really lovely feel. The staff are are really friendly and make you extremely welcome. Our standard room was very well designed and modern and well thought out. The decor of the hotel was really well done and you can see where the money has been spent. The evening meal we booked was excellent too and I really couldn't fault that or the breakfast, The toast and croissant basket was a really nice touch.

I couldn'ty recommend this hotel enough as a base to explore the Costwalds. Thank you for the excellent hospitallity.

Stayed here for 2 nights, having researched T Advisor on hotels in the area.First impressions were of a very well managed hotel where attention to detail is obvious from the start.Staff were professional and charming,( either they pick the best or they train them well) they were extremely attentive without being obtrusive, very knowlegable about the hotel and area.
My only gripe would be that the standard rooms are on the small side,we booked a standard double, but on arrival asked for an upgrade to a suite, this was no problem for the hotel and we were glad that we did, it was a lovely room, with a seperate lounge with aTV in both rooms.
Suite is obviously pricier but well worth the extra.Ate in the restaurant which was an expierience in itself, I mean an experience in being well attended to, again waitresses knew their stuff and professional . Food was outstanding tremendous attention to detail gone into the food and the whole layout of the restaurant.
This was a couple of nights to get away, and we can not think of a better place to unwind and to be looked after.Yes it is not the cheapest place in the area we could have stayed cheaper elsewhere, however the memories of a fantastic hotel and loveley staff will linger longer in the mind than the price.Cannot recommend this hotel highly enough Well done Numer Four.

First things first; Thier website claims that if you book your room direct by phone you will receive a free bottle of wine. When I mentioned this to the lady I was told that I had to request the wine at the time of booking, and because I did not we could not have one! She also said that this was stated in 'the small print' on the website (which seems totally unnecessary to me). So, ASK FOR YOUR WINE WHEN YOU BOOK!! Other than this the stay was perfectly pleasant, with nice, well appointed rooms (if only a little small) and pleasant, friendly staff. Try and ask for a room with a view though or you may end up looking out onto a brick wall. The best part of our stay was definitley the evening meal, which, when booked with the room, came in at £30 a head for three courses (excluding booze, obviously). We were part of a larger group and ended up being over 30mins late for our booking but this didn't seem to phase the staff at all, the only drawback being we had to wait a little longer for our food to arrive (not bad seeing as the restaurant was fully booked that night). Breakfast in the morning was also a 1st class affair, with good, fresh ingredients and service. On the whole a very pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view!

The hotel staff were fabulous and the hotel very classy. The room wasn't quite as good as we would have expected for the price but couldn't fault the cleanilness and servicing of the room. The breakfasts were excellent and the evening meal first class, but a little pricey. The only downside of the stay, and this was probalbly our own fault for not researching things fully, was that the hotel was a five minute drive from the town. This in itself woulnd't noramlly cause a problem, but the walk from the hotel into Stowe was uphill and this meant that unless we were in the mood for a good walk we couldn't enjoy a drink in the town unless we used a taxi.We would recommend this hotel.
