“Great food, great service.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 October 2013

Just returned from our short break to the cotswolds and our stay at number four. It was the first time we stayed at this hotel and stayed after recommendations from this site and we didn't have to worry at all. The service we received, from all the staff, from the moment we walked in to our cheery farewell was excellent - nothing was too much trouble. We had a really good quality meal in the restaurant and when we wanted a couple of small changes from the published menu this wasn't a problem. In fact the steak that I had was one of the best I've ever had,(and I've had a few!) was cooked to perfection, which is surprising because a lot of places don't get this basic detail right but this was spot on. Good selection of wines to choose from also and there was no rush at all. I would highly recommend this to other travellers for a good quality break and who are looking for a bit of affordable luxury.

Room Tip: for a quiet room, ask for ones away from the main road as with the window open it can be a little no...

Looking for a place to hide out from the road traffic on bank holiday weekend, we booked here for 5 nights, to use as a base for country walks and short drives to the small towns in the Cotswolds. The hotel is a 20-minute walk or 5-minute drive from Stow.

From checkin to checkout, the staff showed they were well-trained, as they all made us feel appreciated as guests, but did not intrude. The room was modern and well-maintained with air conditioning. Even though the hotel is situated on Fosse Way, our room was very quiet. The restaurant is worth a visit for dinner with an excellent menu and superbly prepared dishes.

Breakfast was included in the room rate and it was consistently good. They offered a cooked English breakfast or homemade granola, yoghurt and some of the best croissants this side of the Channel.

This hotel is a great find; reasonably priced and with service rarely found in hotels of any price and stature.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the road, even though this may not be necessary. There was no road noise in...

We stayed for one night on our way south using the Fosse Way rather than the motorways. We were warmly welcomed and given a quiet room which was immaculately clean but a trifle on the small side. A nice touch was the complimentary bottle of wine in the fridge.
Dinner was excellent with a good choice and friendly but unobtrusive service. Would certainly stay there again

Room Tip: Would ask for a larger room or suite if staying more than one night.

This is truly a wonderful hotel! If I were to base my rating on 5 stars, I would give it 6! The owners obviously take pride in a well run business. We had a suite which was amazing! It had a separate sitting room from the bedroom. Very quiet also. The receptionist was always helpful and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant breakfasts and dinners were exceptional during our 4 day stay. This hotel is right outside of the downtown area of Stow, which is good. There is a lot of traffic there and parking at hotels in the downtown area surely must be a problem. Number Four at Stow has a nice large lighted parking area and it is a very short drive to the downtown area. It is a perfect place from which to explore the lovely Cotswolds. Would love to return if we are in this part of England again. Thank you for a very nice stay!

Had a great 4 night break at this excellent hotel for the second time in two years. Everything was as good as it was last time. We booked a suite which had a separate sitting room. The bedroom was large and tastefully decorated with a walk-in wardrobe. The sitting room was nicely furnished. Everything was very clean and comfortable. All the staff were welcoming and well-trained.
We took advantage of the dinner every evening and the food was wonderful. The menu had a good selection of local produce, all cooked to perfection and well presented. The Cotswold Lamb was the best of all! The chef certainly deserves an award - his food outshines several Michelin-starred places we have tried.
The hotel makes an excellent base for touring the Cotswolds.

We arrived at this lovely hotel, after another local hotel had no record of our booking, and were welcomed by the most helpful staff. We stayed three nights, and although the room was not large it was more than adequate. It was well appointed, very clean, and the bed very comfortable.
We dined in the restaurant each evening as the food was excellent. The breakfasts were also very good, and the service was attentive on all occasions. We would certainly recommend this hotel, as it is only a short distance from Stow, and is a good base to explore the Cotswolds.
Once again thank you for sorting out the problem we had. Roy B.

This hotel is located near Stow, but not in a city of village. So one will need an auto to get around. The rooms are a trifle on the small side, but not cramped. Their restaurant is so good that we used it for all of our dinners during a 5-day stay; going farther afield for lunches. Stow is within easy driving distance of Oxford and many scenic villages- sometimes with names longer than the main streets. The staff is exceptionally helpful.
