“Great food”
Reviewed 12 November 2013

Stayed at this hotel for a meeting. Excellent very large bedrooms, well equiped with trouser press, iron etc. good spacious bathroom and good value at £115 including dinner and breakfast, could be because it was a Monday. Bedroom lighting could do with a bit more power. Great helpful staff, but the star of the show was the food. Clearly a chef punching way above his weight! Elegant public rooms and lovely conservatory with terrific views. Our meeting room was perfect and with the extra treat of some delicious home baked cakes with afternoon tea which were really outstanding.

Position of the Hotel was marvellous set in acres of wooded land, yet just off the road. Can I just say the staff were fabulous, although the rooms had their own little foibles, there was no way that was going to detract from a fabulous week end. as their was up to 36 of us coming and going throughout the weekend we were served our evening dinners in an aptly named room to ourselves where the staff were very attentive. The food was well presented, and I think that pre ordering our meals went a long way to making everything go like a well a oiled timepiece. Breakfasts were long and leisurely, giving everyone a chance to chat and wake up for the coming day. Because we were a large group we were given a discount on the rooms which was greatly appreciated, they were in the main part spacious and well appointed; ours especially was big enough to hold a dance in!
I can recommend this hotel to any large group wanting a great weekend get-together

Room Tip: Try for rooms that look over the gardens (grassland) and towards Bourton on the water, and try avoid...

I and 3 friends stayed there for 3 nights last weekend. The setting is wonderful and it really is a lovely old building. The grounds are beautifully kept. The rooms were cosy and clean but we felt that some attention to detail was lacking. Tiling on the bathroom floor in both rooms was stained and cracked. A table was extremely wobbly and we reported it on the day of arrival. One the towels in our room was dirty from previous occupant but refolded and left as if fresh. Towels and bedding were changed every day which wasn't entirely necessary and felt as if it were misplaced effort (and not environmentally friendly) when other issues could have been addressed. A leak developed in our bathroom ceiling and we were transferred to another room, which was fine. However the bathroom in that room didn't have a functioning extractor fan and we couldn't open the windows as it was on the ground floor. Sometimes there was nobody at reception and we had to wait 5-10 mins for someone to return. There was no staff member in the bar and you had to go to reception to be served, whether for a drink of for afternoon tea, and often there was quite a wait. Staff were friendly and pleasant but there seemed to be a lack of will to go the extra mile. For example, there is not much to do at the hotel - no pool, gym, golf course etc - especially in really bad weather, but reception were unable to give much information on walks and directions in the area or local amenities and activities. Hot food such as toast and eggs at breakfast sometimes came out cold. However, this did occur on a busy wedding morning. What it felt like was that there was a lack of hands-on management which is needed to put these little things right. None of them are major but collectively they let down what is otherwise a lovely venue. Some thoughtfulness was evident in that we were located well away from the wedding party so we were not disturbed. I would still recommend Wyck Hill House but it needs to work just a little bit harder to fully deserve its 4 star rating. It may possibly be due to understaffing as the cracks were showing.

We spent one night at Wyck Hill House on a special deal. The location, setting and building itself were lovely and the bedroom a good size. However on close inspection it was evident the place is looking tired. This type and age of building is very expensive to maintain and it is clear the corridors, decor, bathroom fittings, bath panel and doors all need upgrading. The food however was very good and the staff helpful and we would definitely return in the future.

Wyck Hill must have been a beautiful house once upon-a-time. I'm not sure how it became a hotel and sadly there is nothing in the hotel to explain the history (always slightly nerve racking, in case the 'history' is sinnister!) but that is Wyck Hill: it feels like a place with no soul trying to be something it's not. The staff on check in are efficient but awkward and aloof so my arrival wasn't positive. My room lacked most basic amenities: no tea tray (according to the desk I could order tea but they didn't have enough trays to go around!), no mineral water, no trouser press, broken lights, a grubby shower with badly stained / mouldy grout, a broken heated towel rail, a painfully awkward door lock - I could go on.

Dinner in the restaurant felt like Fawlty Towers: the food was okay but the service haphazard, the decor 1980's and the piped music atrocious. Breakfast was okay and the cooked breakfast freshly prepared and actually pretty good. The bar and library are beautiful rooms and worthy of a visit.

The hotel has a spa and had advertising for it everywhere! However, it has NO GYM! A cardinal sin in 2013. Even Holiday Inn's have gyms these days as most business travellers want to keep fit. It's utterly bizarre but perhaps they don't want business guests.

All in all this isn't the worst hotel in which I've stayed but its not cheap and I'd struggle to recommend it when there are cleaner, better maintained and fully equipped hotels in the area.

We stayed at this hotel last night for our wedding anniversary. We took advantage of the autumn deal of D,B&B with a bottle of wine for £150 which was such value for money.

The main house is just lovely, reception staff were so friendly and welcoming as were all staff we met.

Our room was across from the main house in the orangery and was generous in size and had a very comfortable bed.

Dinner was very good, with a nice menu and a lovely dining room. Although it was a little bit quiet and could have done with a little more ambience.

Breakfast however was amazing, we literally had to leave the dining room to stop us from eating any more delicious pastries or toast or cooked breakfast or fruit etc etc! Really lovely, beautiful view over the valley and great service.

We'll definitely be back and I think we'd stay in the main house next time.

Beautiful venue in a stunning setting. Room was spacious and clean, bed was very comfortable.
Excellent food & service for lunch, evening meal and breakfast.

Only criticisms were that it was so hot in the bedroom that even with both radiators off and all windows open I was still hot. There was no mirror with adequate lighting for makeup and no inside chain or door lock which is usually standard.

But would definately recommend.
