“Anniversary Weekend”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

We spent a weekend here to celebrate our anniversary. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful from the start. The room in the coach house was spacious, comfortable and clean. Food in the restaurant was excellent and the service could not be faulted.
We would go back here any time.

I chose this hotel because of an article in a 1987 Gourmet magazine. I should throw old magazines away! 27 years makes a big difference and this is no exception. Pretty much down hill from what the article presented. It's a shame because it could be a great country-house hotel.

Room Tip: Don't book a patio room. Patio door knob comes off in your hand and there is no furniture on the...

The house is beautiful - the public rooms and grounds are all just lovely.

I was a bit disappointed that we ended up in a suite type room in the courtyard but it was comfortable, clean and cosey.

It's a great base for exploring the Cotswolds.

I felt the hotel lacking in that it didnt have a fully kitted out spa and a pool. It would make it amazing. It's such a lovely hotel but its missing out not having it.

All in all - we paid through an offer website and it delivered on all bases.

Only thing of any note is that we asked the hotel to book us a taxi into burford for the evening. Order your own PLEASE! He was extremely rude and extremely over priced

Just spent 2 nights here after touring France.
Very warm welcome from the ladies in the desk.
No towels in the room but was rectified instantly.
Very large rooms, comfy bed, pillows ect. Bathroom maybe in need of some tlc. Our first night was DBB. We were sat in the conservatory very pleasant. Good food lovely menu. Breakfast busy but food lovely. We ate out on our second night at the bell in stow amazing food. Hotel obliged in booking our taxi. Bar in the evening well looked after.
Wouldn't stay again as far too much choice if hotels in the area and too far from main town for a walk.

Stayed here with a friend for three nights. We booked a twin, but were given a doule. That was soon rectified. The room was lovely. The food excellent. The staff polite and friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Where to start. This hotel had a good review but we were very disappointed it did not live up to our expectations of a 4 star hotel. We did book on the last minute and were in a room in The Coach House. The lighting was extremely poor - two bedside lamps - (one of the bulbs didn't work and we had to take one out of the bathroom so we could see to read). The only other lights were on the wall at the top of the stairs, away from the bed, so weren't much use. There was a hospitality tray but no water and not much milk. Some stains on the carpet! One uncomfortable easy chair - where is the other person to sit? The room was about 100 metres from the main hotel and there is not a lot of lighting along the pathway and we found it particularly difficult in the pouring rain we experienced. There was a wedding taking place the day/evening/breakfast we were there and we felt they had "taken over". The place was crowded and noisy. The meal in the evening was reasonable but not outstanding. There was a lot of noise from the wedding which went on until nearly 1am - we know these things happen but feel the hotel should have advised us of this when booking and not when we actually arrived. We had some relations staying with us who required a "disabled" room and on this occasion it was in fact the room that was "disabled". When they first came to sit on the toilet seat, it fell straight off!! They reported it and although they stayed for two nights, nothing was done. Also, two of the downlighters were not working and these also were not replaced and it was difficult for them to see their way around the room once it was dark and the curtains drawn - again, just two bedside lights. Perhaps they are trying to keep down their electricity bills by not having too many lights on? Disappointing stay and have had better rooms at b & bs.

Room Tip: The hotel is in its own large grounds and road noise is not a problem in any of the rooms

We stayed last night in room 28 which was on the first floor overlooking the side lawns. We were really impressed. The room was beautifully decorated and in keeping with the grandeur of this lovely old house. All the staff we encountered were pleasant and all our needs were met. Breakfast this morning was in a lovely orangery/conservatory which overlooks the grounds. The breakfast was delicious. Overall we had a really good stay here and felt as though we were staying in a very special property.

Room Tip: Room 28 in the house can be highly recommended
