“Weekend at Fosse Manor”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 October 2013

The service food and front of house were very good. The superior room was somewhat of a let down. Very tired decor and poor furnishings did not reflect the cost of the room. The bathroom was very basic and past it's best. The shower controls were awful and constant hot water impossible to obtain. The room needs redecorating and new furniture installed. A fridge would be useful and even some decent biscuits would be good. If you get a decent discount then not bad value but the full price would be overcharging for an average accommodation which could be bettered in a decent b and b

A charming hotel in a lovely setting, made more atractive by the colour of the Virginia creeper the staff were extrmenly helpful and pleasant. We must mention Kyle who was most efficient in every department and who solved a partiicularly difficult problem. Food and wine was excellent.

Stayed there for a wedding. When we arrived at 12 midday our room wasn't ready! As the wedding was at 2pm this was bad. They offered us a mixed changing room with no shower. I kicked up a fuss and threatened to move to another hotel. Reluctantly they then speeded up the room preparation.
We waited in the bar area (no atmosphere at all) and were restricted to small two slice sandwiches @£7:50 each!!

Room Tip: choose Another hotel

My Wife and I stayed there last Friday (4/10/13) as our nephew was married there on this day.
To cut a long story short, the wedding location and service etc, at the venue was very good however the room we stayed in was another story.
We were in room 7 which was roomy enough for 2 people and the bed was very comfortable indeed. The décor was a little jaded to say the least and at 7.15am on the Saturday morning I was awoken by my pillow vibrating which was due to the extractor fan from the kitchen being attached to the outside wall of our room. I jest not on this as trust me I am a heavy sleeper and had partaken in a rather large amount of alcohol the night before, however the noise / vibration was more than enough to prevent me from going back to sleep.
We had apparently had a reduced room price of £125 for the room with B&B due to the wedding being held at the venue, I have no idea what the normal price should have been and do not wish to find out.
The staff were very friendly and morning breakfast was of sufficient quality.
Why have I rated it so low you may ask: the answer is that the night before I stayed at a nearby travel lodge for the princely sum of £26.00 (having booked a few weeks in advance) yes I had to pay for breakfast for my wife and I in the little chef next door which cost about £15.00 -£20.00 but was just as good a meal as the location in question.

As a wedding venue the location is good but as a value for money hotel with charm etc. then please think again as you can stay nearby and explore this great part of the country for a lot less cost and greater value for money.

Room Tip: Whatever you do never stay in room 7.

Myself and my fiancée dined at the Fosse Manor last night for our complimentary meal leading up to our wedding in December. We were very happy with the service we received and found Kyle, our waiter, to be extremely competent and welcoming! The food was delicious and beautifully presented! We feel very excited about our forthcoming wedding!! The ambiance of the restaurant was perfect, so cosy and romantic! I would highly recommend Fosse Manor to anyone, you will not be disappointed! Thank you Annie for arranging our special evening and we shall look forward to deciding our wedding menu with you on the 1st of October!!

We have passed the hotel many times when visiting the Cotswolds and were expecting great things of our 3 night stay, however our superior room was on the ground floor, well furnished and quiet there were cobwebs on the walls both side of our bed !. Our first evening meal was like a faulty towers episode ,we were directed to a table then left for 20 minutes we went to the bar to ask if we could order ,only to be served with bread which ended on the floor rather than the plate.
Our meal was delicious when it arrived the chef and his team are very good, we were then brought the wrong desserts and were attended by 4 different waiting staff it all felt a bit like we were served when we could be as there were a party eating near the bar area.
Breakfast was very good the Irish waitress is a gem and her service was superb.
It seemed strange that such an imposing place has no real reception, first impressions do count ,we asked to book a table and the reception person was quite condescending not an of course reply ,but I can only do another time ? when we arrive later as told there was only one other table in use ,this does not make sense to the customer.
The hotel felt like someone has taken their eye off the ball perhaps the weddings are more important, although the fosse manor has so much going for it .

During the last couple of months, as we live locally, my wife and I have stopped at the hotel a few time on the off-chance to have a spot of Lunch or Dinner, like we have done for may years.

Well, every time we were told that there was a wedding or a private function and then when we asked if we could make a reservation for Sunday Lunch, (for a family celebration), we were told, (to our disappointment), that they did not serve Sunday Lunch anymore, except for some Sandwiches!..

Finally to-night, we managed to get a table in the Restaurant and although the food was good and the 3 young front of house staff on duty did their best, the overall experience was a big disappointment. In our experience, for many years Fosse Manor has been a wonderful place to visit, be it for a three courses Dinner, a light Lunch or a double espresso!..
The welcome, (from long standing staff!...), was always warm and genuine and the combination of Food and Service always excellent. On to-night experience, the long standing staff seemed to have disappeared and the 3 staff on duty just about managed to carry the food from the Kitchen to the table. We could not help noticing that both the Bar and Restaurant areas, were untidy and not very clean, (you only need to look under the service table in the upper part of the Restaurant!) Also, the length of time that resident, (coming down for Dinner), were kept waiting in the Bar area, before anybody was able to acknowledge them by asking their Room Number not their name, (very impersonal!) and never mind offering them an aperitif or a menu.

What has happened to the wonderful Fosse Manor we have known since 2004 ???

Maybe the Owner/Management should decide if they want: a) a successful Wedding-Venue or b) a Restaurant with an acceptable number of staff for what they charge their customers.

An old Italian proverb goes like this: "You cannot have the wife drunk and the barrel full..."

We feel very sad indeed for the place and I don't think that we will be back in the near future.

Room Tip: Ring in advance if you wish to use the Restaurant!
