The atmosphere is great and the service friendly. The dinner was delightful and dessert even better.
We were a group of six, looking for an impromptu lunch on a Sunday in Stroud. The Imperial looked like a welcoming option and the menu suggested they knew how to cook. How wrong could we be?!
We should have suspicious given we were the only table there. Four of us ordered the 'trio of local sausages with minted summer vegetables, creamy leek mash and red onion gravy.' The first one arrived looking decidedly dodgy. The mashed potato was spread across the plate, surrounded by droopy vegetables and some giant anaemic sausages had been plonked on top. There was no gravy in sight and no sign of heat. Closer inspection revealed that nothing had been properly cooked. Each element was a slightly different temperature but none of it could be described as hot. It had all been microwaved, hence the smeared appearance of the potato, the revolting texture of the vegetables and the flabby, wan complexion of the sausages. Having sent the first plate back, they all reappeared 15 minutes later and whilst the sausages had now been blasted by the microwave, the vegetables and mash were absolutely stone cold. The gravy that we'd had to request separately arrived in a bowl and was so disgustingly congealed the spoon didn't sink to the bottom of it!
The other two people in our party did manage to eat most of their meals (a thai green curry and burger) which had been served first before we realised the issue with the rest of the food. Unfortunately the thai green curry with prawns was regretted shortly afterwards, when it caused an upset stomach.
Needless to say we didn't eat, or pay for the food. What was worse is that the lady who was serving (and obviously running out to the kitchen to cook everything as well) was hardly apologetic for the disgraceful service and food we'd received and the fact that most of us had to leave hungry, having sat there for an hour.
In summary, if you fancy a poorly microwaved meal that you wouldn't even give your dog then the Imperial is the place to go. If you'd like something edible then give this place a wide berth.
Very few times in my life have I been served a simply inedible meal... this was one of those times. Sausages and mash that was clearly microwaved, arrived stone cold after a 30min wait, and even when sent back still was only luke warm and had no colour on at all. Apathy would best describe the host's reaction...
Would note we were also the only people there- very strange establishment, without question should be closed down. Avoid.
The food and service is always excellent. It was their 7th birthday and we eat for free! And it was still good as ever
