How can the same pub get 5 stars and 1 star from reviewers? As a (fairly) regular customer I'm happy to tell you. It's in a brilliant spot above the Slad Valley, and retains genuine atmosphere as well as superb views especially from Laurie Lee's favourite spot in the corner of the Snug. A very good selection of nice ales, helpful and friendly staff, and a real attempt to provide quality food, all make the Woolpack a corker on its day. The downside is that at busy times (summer weekend nights, bank holidays etc) the food has a tendency to run out, the young and inexperienced staff get over-run and out of their depth, and the food itself can suddenly plummet from its usual high quality. Go anytime for a pint. But if you want to eat, and enjoy this great pub at its best, go mid-week and you *probably* won't be disappointed.
