“Excellent service again”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

Having used this Premier Inn before, what stands out are the staff who without exception are superb. Very helpful & friendly. The room & bathroom were clean & up to the usual Premier Standard. Yes, there was some street noise at night & unfortunately the fire alarm went off in the early hours as a guest needed urgent medical attention. Both were outside PI's control but the staff apologised & offered a refund under the "good night's sleep guarantee"

The overall style and quality was fairly standard; however, this was mid-June and a very hot, humid late afternoon, evening and night. The room was reasonable comfortable and well appointed. However, the only ventilation was a small top opening window, restrained by a "safety" cord for "the safety of our visitors". I assume that they think that we are all going to climb out to our deaths: a child of seven would have difficulty in getting through the open window even if fully open. While I appreciate that to effect any meaningful change would cost money [a lot] supplying a noisy fan solves nothing - the hot humid air merely recirculates through the room. It was clearly an original design fault, but the owners should address this. Perhaps a cooling tower would be a little better - at least one would be cool whilst lying awake.

My partner and I stayed at the hotel for 2 nights 14/15 June 14 we found it very comfortable and good value for money. One member of staff in particular deserves a very big thank you from us
her name is Lacey. I have been in catering for 49 years and this girl is going to do the hotel and the trade a lot of success. She has the best customer relations I have seen in a long time.
Future management without a doubt.

The staff did acknowledge that there is an antisocial problem with boy racers doing doughnuts around the adjoining Tesco car park at night. The police, Tesco and PI need a concerted effort to prevent it disturbing guests. Also the smoking area outside reception causes smoke to drift into the open windows of disabled rooms numbers 5 and 7. Also no super king-size beds in disabled rooms - or any other rooms perhaps????

The attitude of all the staff encountered was outstanding - they were all very friendly and were helpful and attentive at all times. The rooms were clean and all fixtures and fittings worked as intended.

If you look at my contributions you will see i stay a lot in the Premier Inn's with my work, infact this was the 4th Premier Inn in 2 weeks.

PROS.
Ok lets start with why i gave it a two (poor) and not one (terrible). When i arrived to the hotel on the 27th May at around 5pm i was greeted at the front desk by a fantastic host, she was informative and helpful and deserves praise because her actions alone stopped this review being a one star.

CONS
The corridor between rooms 29-32 stank of damp and fried food, i dont know if these rooms are above the kitchen but the smell is very bad indeed.

The room was very large but every time you moved the floor boards creaked which drove me mental.

The room was dirty, there were cobwebs everywhere just hanging like they had been there for months, they even had dust on.

The ceiling had a large brown stain from water damage which had not been painted over.
The carpets were filthy

There is no double glazing and the windows had flaking paint on them and were directly over the beer garden so plenty of noise until midnight.

The noise was not the main issue as i could not sleep anyway as there was enough light coming from under the room door. The gap was about 11/2" between the carpet and and enough to easily slide my phone 4s (with case) under it.

That however was not what was keeping me up the most, it was the bed or should i say two of them. I cannot believe that a hotel chain of this size pushes together two mis-sized single beds together to make one, not only was there a gap between them but also different heights so a ridge, they were also the rock hard.

This has to be the WORST Premier Inn room i have EVER stayed in.

As for the attached Brewers, i had to wait 10 mins to be served a beer while 3 people chatted to each other behind the bar ( yes i was the only one at the bar).
The breaded mushrooms were like rocks, and aweful. I had to wait 30 seconds between starter and main as the waitress collected my plate, walked into the kitchen and walked out with my luke warm smoothered chicken. So that had not been sitting around had it!

All in all the worst experience i have had at a Premier Inn. If you search on there website you will find the next Premier from this one is 13 miles away. If my experience is anything to go by i would go the extra 13 miles and stay somewhere else.

Room Tip: Go to another Premier Inn 13 miles away

There are a list of things that need to be changed to bring this hotel up to the normal Premier Inn standard:
1. Every window frame, that I saw, was covered in black, smelly damp.
2. The bedroom smelt of damp.
3. All of the carpets (bedroom, hall and Brewers Fayre restaurant) needed hoovering and cleaning.
4. The bathroom grouting was grubby.
5. The electric socket in the bedroom was loose.

I hope Premier Inn head office sees this review and makes the changes, as we need the standard to be maintained across the brand.

Room Tip: Try to stay away from the Bar / Restaurant as I imagine ot would be quite noisy
