We stayed in the Silkwood Twin Room. The room was very pleasant, and it would have been lovely to make use of the outside sitting area if the weather permitted. Good features are wireless internet access at all times, bathroom has Molton Brown toiletries and nice tea and coffee making facilities. One very annoying item is the lighting in the bathroom; It comes on automatically via sensors on the ceiling. However the placement of the sensors means that a few minutes later you are in the darkness and performing silly acts of arm waving etc to get the light back on - difficult when you are in the bath!!! TV not very reliable.
The staff were wonderful, helpful and welcoming. The room and hotel was very clean.
I would definitely stay again if in that area.

It will be a great pleasure to welcome you back to the Hare and Hounds. I am very pleased that you found our staff polite and helpful, they are all very aware of how guests feel about the way they are treated, and understand that their attitude can make such a difference to a hotel stay.
Thank you for your observations regarding your room, it certainly helps other travellers to have a frank overview of a property.

We stayed at the Hare and Hounds for two nights during the week of Badminton Horse Trials (the reason for our visit), which had been cancelled due to the very wet weather. However we decided to continue with our break regardless! We were very glad we did as the hotel is delightful. Our room (no 20) had views of the lovely gardens, it was large and comfortable with a good size bathroom with bath and seperate shower. There is a drawing room with an open log fire with an adjoining library both of which were perfect for reading newspapers in the morning or a drink in the evening. We only dined in Jack Hare's Bar as we felt the dining room was a little too formal (although the menu looked superb). However an excellent breakfast was served here. The food in the bar was very good with helpful staff. In fact all the staff are really delightful. The hotel is close to Tetbury wich has plenty of antique shops and restaurants. Also well worth a visit is Berkley Castle where Edward 2nd was held and who died there. It is still owned by the same family and is used as a family home. The hotel is also next door to Westonbirt Arboritum. We have already booked for next year!

Room Tip: Rooms 20 and 21 have lovely garden views and are quiet.

Thank you for your review regarding your recent stay. The cancellation of Badminton Horse Trials was upsetting for all concerned , but like yourselves quite a number of people still came to stay and were pleased with their decision. The Cotswolds is a beautiful area and always worth a visit.

We stayed here for two nights last weekend and found everything to be perfect (apart from the weather!). The hotel is in a very beautiful part of the Cotswolds and near to many attractions. Just seeing the outside of the Hotel was impressive and very traditional looking. Our room was large and comfortable with two chairs and a lovely oak chest of drawers (no corporate hotel furniture here). We had booked the 3 course meal for the Sunday evening but it was actually more like 6 courses (including canapes, amusee bouche, sorbet and pre desert) all of which were delicious. We eat out regularly and have travelled all over the world but my husband said his fillet steak with unusual accompaniments was the best he had ever tasted - which is high praise indeed! The wine list was varied and not all were expensive which is often the case when fine dining. On our second night we ate in the bar and again the food was well presented and tasty not just pub grub.
The hotel is dog friendly and were welcome in the bar area but not the dining room. There are cottages in the extensive grounds where I presume the people with dogs stayed so this was not a problem to other guests.
Unfortunately due to the terrible weather we were unable to make use of the lovely grounds to sit out for pre or post dinner drinks etc but the next time we stay here we hope the weather will be more favourable.
The staff were all friendly and we felt quite sorry for them when on our last day we heard that the Badminton Horse Trials had been cancelled due to bad weather and the hotel was being bombarded with cancellations from all over the world, even this did not phase the lovely receptionist, she was still cheerful and friendly.

Room Tip: We had room 5 overlooking the front which was quiet and had a plesant view.

You have just cheered all my staff up! Losing Badminton was a blow, but kindly guests like yourselves make a great difference to how we all feel. I hope we may have the pleasure of welcoming you back to the Hare and Hounds in the future, when the weather is glorious and the garden is at its best.

We stayed here in March we booked via Tesco Clubcard vouchers and we paid extra to upgrade the room to one of the Silkwood Rooms. We stayed in The Pear room, it was gorgeous, not only was it really spacious but it was immaculately clean and we liked the fact that we were away from the main hotel, it was hardly a chore to walk to breakfast in the mornings!! The main thing that set this hotel apart also was the staff we found them very courteous and not afraid to help us. We were on B&B basis but the first night we ate in the Jack Hare pub, we found the food to be really good quality and not at all expensive, would really recommend a meal in here. Breakfast was also very good and again we found the quality of the food excellent as well as the service, it was nice to see the staff well versed in what they were supposed to be doing, we found the lady who seated us especially lovely, I think her name was June. Overall we would not hesitate to book this hotel again and would love to return.

Beautifully situated hotel, ideal for exploring South Gloucestershire. We stayed in a suite in Silkwood Court, it was spacious, very clean and well appointed. We booked a package with Secret Escapes, which although no refundable, was worth the risk. Included in the package was dinner in the Beaufort restaurant which was superb fine dining.

This is a beautiful hotel in an ideal location for visiting Bath, Tetbury, Westonbirt and Highgrove etc. We often stay here for special occasions or when visiting youngest daughter at Bath Uni. We have not yet been disappointed with our room (different one each time) and we were once upgraded FOC to a large room at the front of the hotel and although this was fab we prefer the smaller ones we have had overlooking the back garden. The restaurant service is excellent and food delicious in both the restaurant and Jack Hares bar. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to all. Yes it seems pricey but you can always go for their occasional offers which do as they promise! Putting it into perspective just look what B and B's are now charging!

Room Tip: Rooms are nice overlooking the garden but thats just personal preference.

We stayed for one night at the hotel to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. We were initially disappointed with the first room we were given (it backed onto the smokers courtyard and was therefore very noisy) however the hotel were very accomodating moving us to a nicer room in the main hotel. The food was delicious, staff helpful (maitre d slightly arrogant) and overall we had a lovely time and would return.
