“Fabulous wine and food lovers stay”
Reviewed 13 April 2014

we enjoyed a 2 night stay at this fantastic hotel, we have stayed in pretty much all the others in this chain and were not disappointed. We were given an upgrade on arrival to one of the rooms in the courtyard 'oak'. Huge room with comfortable furniture, massive bed and a well stocked bathroom with Molton Brown goodies!
We had the taster menu on the first night which was perfectly complimented with the wine flight, and ate in the pub next door on the 2nd night - the Jack Stack burger was massive!! And the breakfast choice is also extensive - nothing seems too much trouble!

The staff are so friendly and helpful, so much so, that we are considering booking our wedding here in the near future!

Room Tip: we were upgraded to a courtyard room 'oak' but it is near the delivery area for the hotel an...

There are a lot of great reviews on this hotel; this will add to the list.

The setting, service and comfort and cleanliness levels in the room were all very high. There was a relaxed and casual smart atmosphere in both hotel and restaurant.

The food in the Beaufort Restaurant was of a quality that easily matched the 2 AA Rosettes; beautifully presented, perfect proportions, served with pride by knowledgeable and friendly waiters.

If I had a quibble, I would say that the relationship between bar and restaurant is not well resolved. The sense is that they are separate operations, with a greater sense of "pub" in the former than "upmarket hotel and restaurant bar". It comes across most obviously when there is a wedding, as we experienced on our last visit earlier in the winter when we stopped for afternoon tea.

The room in the cottages was quiet, comfortable, well stocked with high quality toiletries, well lit (often a shortcoming in hotels) and very spacious with a strong sense of privacy.

And all of this at a price that simply doesn't reflect the quality - £139 per night including breakfast is outstanding. The dinner with its multiple and fabulous amuse-bouche courses was £39 per head.

The hotel and restaurant deserve to be successful.

Thank you for your comprehensive review full of useful information about those elements of hotels, service, food and comfort, that people really care about. We are all delighted with your assessment of our Beaufort Restaurant and the team who run it, as you say, with great pride. Thank you for your 'guests eye view' of Jack Hare's bar. We try to keep an open and relaxed feeling there so that everyone, from walkers with dogs and muddy boots, polo teams after a game, locals having a pint and a chat and parents visiting children at Westonbirt private school, to friends sharing a bottle of wine and wedding guests dressed in their best, feels welcome. Fortunately they don't all come at once, but I do appreciate your point, it has given me food for thought. I hope we may have the pleasure of welcoming you back to the Hare in the future.

The hotel was lovely and exceeded all my expectations. The room was large and clean with lots of extra special touches such as interesting design features (spherical glass light shade, stone fireplace and tree wallpaper), Molton Brown toiletries and good views over the beautifully landscaped grounds at the back of the hotel.

I booked for the 3 course meal at the hotel restaurant and the food was excellent. As well as the 3 courses we were also given delicious canapes beforehand, an amuse bouche, palate cleanser and pre-dessert. As a vegetarian I was also impressed that there was a separate vegetarian menu as generally find there are very limited options at higher end, French-inspired places. The breakfast was also great with a good choice of hot food and a buffet with fresh fruit juice, cereals, yoghurts, fruit compotes and pastries.

All the staff (both restaurant and reception) were also very helpful, welcoming and attentive.

I would definitely recommend and thought overall, it was excellent value for a hotel and restaurant of this quality.

Our Chef and his team are very proud of your review and have put it on the kitchen noticeboard. They work so hard to give guests a great experience, so it is wonderful when someone takes the time to put their thoughts on paper (or screen!) I am very happy to hear that you would return and thank you for writing such an informative review.

Beautiful setting for this idyllic country house type pub/hotel. Very comfortable room and a great welcome from reception staff. Although he hotel was busy preparing for a wedding fare on the Sunday we felt looked after and special. Restaurant staff well drilled and enthusiastic about servic and knowledgable about the product they served.

Room Tip: Room 20 was good for us. Huge comfy bed plenty of space and storage. Ask for fresh milk and it's...

I am delighted that you felt welcome and cared for in spite of Wedding open day preparations going on around you ( a really successful day too) We are very lucky to have a team of staff who are passionate about service, and work hard at getting that great balance between 'professional' and 'friendly'. Thank you for your review.

A lovely hotel with warm, friendly staff. We were celebrating a big birthday so were delighted to have been given a room upgrade. The room overlooked the road but there was minimal road noise. We couldn't fault the room, everything was perfect. We had a lovely cream tea in the lounge followed by a meal in the bar. The tasting menu the second night was faultless and we left nothing.
We would definitely go back.

Fantastic nights stay in this beautiful hotel. Our room was seperate from the main hotel building almost like a small cottage but housed four rooms,2 on the ground floor and 2 on the 1st floor. Everything you would expect from a good hotel. Tea making facilities. Flat screen TV. Toileteries. The only thing missing was a minibar but that didn't bother us. Nothing was too much trouble. The staff are a credit to the hotel with never ending smiles and non stop hospitality. Would definitely return.
