Enjoyed a weekend stay here with some friends at the beginning of February. It's a great location, right in the centre of town. Public areas have all been beautifully refurbished since the hotel was acquired by Cotswold Inns last year, but the rooms we stayed in had obviously not. (Understand this was about to start the week after!) Having said that, everything was clean, room sizes very generous and we had a very comfortable stay. Staff are courteous and couldn't have been more helpful - great service. I would stay in this hotel again without any qualms and look forward to seeing the newly refurbished rooms that are obviously now on sale -going by more recent reviews.

Dear Sootsy,

Thank you for your review.

I am pleased you and your friends had such an enjoyable stay with us in February.

The refurbishment programme is now nearing the final stages with the final rooms heading into refurbishment over the next couple of months. All feedback regarding the rooms has been as positive as that of the public areas.

I will pass on your comments to all the team.

I hope you and your friends will visit again so you can experience a refurbished room.

Kind Regards

Stayed Easter weekend in newly refurbished Tudor room. Fantastic foods and staff, especially reception, nothing was too much bother, excellent staff culture. I thought the building was an architectural folly but it dates back to 1500s. Book and enjoy you won't be disappointed.

We stayed here as a last minute break. On arrival we had Champagne and Chocolates which were very nice and a Cotswold cream tea out in the pretty garden. The scones were very tasty, light and fluffy. The Dinner and service were outstanding, I've never paid so much for a 3 course meal but it was well worth it. It was a very interesting menu, with top class ingredients and the presentation was excellent. The food had great flavours and I would highly recommend it. To get to our room we had to go up a spiral staircase so it felt like staying in a castle. Our room had been newly renovated and looked great. All of the staff were friendly and professional. We really enjoyed our stay. I was suprised the hotel only has 3 stars but understand it was recently taken over and the new owners have done a lot of work and it will be re graded later in the year, I would expect it to be at least 4 or ever 5 stars and I think the chefs should get some mitchelin stars too!

Booked a meal in the restaurant with friends on a Saturday evening. Surprised that the restaurant was empty when we walked in at 7.30pm, shown to a nice table and menus handed out by the waiter. No prices on the menu which was labelled "Fine Dining". We ordered starters and main courses, still not advised the prices, we could have asked but decided to go with it. Food was excellent, although waitress did not bring soup spoons so we had to ask. Overall the food was very enjoyable, but all spoilt when the bill was produced. Thirty nine pounds for two courses! Rather overpriced and therefore we shall not return at these prices which is a shame as it is a nice location.

Dear Martin,

Thank you for taking the time to review your dining experience.

I have mixed feelings regarding your comments as I am pleased you enjoyed the food served but I am disappointed the service and lack of communication dampened your experience.

We offer two dining experiences-The Brasserie which is a more informal experience offering individually priced items such as traditional favourites-Scottish salmon, battered cod & rib eye steak.

The Dining Room offers a more formal dining experience, an intimate ambiance with a set menu show casing the talents of our kitchen brigade with a sophisticated menu yet not pretentious. The menu is priced at £38.00 per person and includes freshly baked bread, an amuse bouche, starter, main course, pre-dessert and dessert. Very good value for the quantity and quality of the food served.

I apologise that the price of the meal and format of the menu was not pointed out to you at the time of booking or on arrival at the restaurant. All staff have been reminded they must point this out to all of our guests. The menus will also be reprinted to include the price per person.

I do hope you will visit us again in the future.

Kind Regards

Great service, great value, beautiful setting. We did the spring into Cotswolds deal and ate the fine dining menu. I thought the quantity of the food was more than adequate and the quality was flawless. The hotel feels more like a 5 star to me, it's immaculately decorated and restored. We enjoyed the fresh, warm bread, local produce and imaginative menu.

Went into the Close for a snack at lunchtime. Ordered a fish platter to share and two drinks. Sat down. 30 min later enquired about the food - reading between the lines the order hadn't been sent through to the kitchen. 15 min nothing so asked for a refund and went elsewhere. The main issue was the attitude of the staff - they were fawning over the (obviously local) ladies who lunch, serving them quickly etc (another couple who came in after us got served food almost immediately) but ignored us visitors. It wasn't as if they were busy - there seemed to be more staff than customers. The staff were having a great time, chatting and joking etc but appeared to have forgotten that they were there for a reason - to serve customers. The staff who served us were both arrogant and disdainful, this is unacceptable. We will not return.

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent experience .

i would like to apologise for the disappointing experience you encountered.

I would like to assure you that all of our guests, local or visitors receive the same level of service and are equally important to us. As you will see from the reviews the team are praised by many fellow reviewers for their service skills.

On this occasion they level of service fell to an unacceptable level and the team members involved have been given your feedback, they too are disappointed with their lack of customer care.

In regards to the food order, unfortunately on this occasion there was a delay on the ordering system which held the food order. As you rightly point out it was not busy on the day of your visit so this should have been picked up immediately by the team.

If you are in the area again I do hope you will visit us again so we can redeem ourselves and ensure you have a much improved experience.

Kind Regards
Clare Steward-Gadsden
