“Stunning scenary with so much to offer”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 November 2012

Have always wanted to visit this Arboretum especially in Autumn but it is a bit of a trek from home as a day trip but as we needed to be in this general direction it was the perfect opportunity. WOW it really was worth it. Yes this was a Sunday and as the weather started out nice, it was very busy. But the car parking was all well organised and the queue for tickets moved quickly. We only did the Old Trail which took an hour at a relaxed pace with lots of photos. Beautiful and lots of information too. Paths are well kept, plenty of benches for those who need to rest. Plenty of other longer routes to walk if you have time and shops to visit but we did not have time on this visit. Lots of options for refreshments with all facilities good. Next time we will make a day of it and go in warmer weather.

“Great day out!”

Visited there today with my husband. Worth every penny, the trees were beautiful! An interesting trek and then a bowl of tasty soup, cake and coffee to follow! Fresh air, exercise and lovely photos-a great day out.

“autumn colours”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 November 2012

My first visit to Westonbirt and it was on a Sunday early in the season (beginning of October). The Sun was shinning and although coldwas a lovely day. The queue to get in to the site was very long and we were directed to the car park which was a field that was a bit muddy but ok, you are outside after all!
The disappointment was the time it took to pay. There were two queues to go through one kiosk and the wait was about 25minutes with no clear direction of which queue to be in for cash or card payments until you were at the booth. The card payment was slow and it felt a little overpriced for the dis-organised chaos we encountered.
Once on the well defined paths and the marked autumn trail, the trees, acers and grounds were very nice and lovely to see.
The toilet facilities were very basic but what you would expect and the food outlets busy and somewhat overpriced. My advice would be to take a drink and snack with you and visit one of the lovely pubs nearby for lunch, time permitting of course.
Overall an enjoyable walk in lovely surroundings but very let down with the hassle to get into the site and also when leaving as there is only one entrance and exit.

“Autumn Colours”

Good time of year to see the magnificent trees in all their glory. Activities provided for children. Very busy time of year and the roads leading to the Arboretum can be blocked with traffic.

“A woodland paradise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 October 2012

Firstly, a couple of grumbles. We approached the Arboretum along the A through the village of Westonbirt. At the junction with the A4 there were no signposts so, in accordance with Sod's Law, we crossed over the A4 for a few miles (wrong!), went back and turned right for a few miles (wrong again!) and finally returned to the junction and turned left towards Bath (hooray!). I normally have a good sense of direction but my second grumble relates to a similar problem. Along with several other visitors, my wife and I had difficulty following the map and found ourselves walking along the same path two or three times. Very pleasant walking but somewhat frustrating.
The arboretum itself was lovely and the 3 hours we spent there still left many paths unexplored. The autumn colours were amazing and alone were worth the admittance price. Toilet facilities were good and the restaurant and snack bars provided an excellent choice of food and drink.
