Sudeley Castle Cottages
Reviewed 10 November 2011

We have been coming back to the cottages for fifteen years and have stayed at the following, Queen Mary, Lady Jane, Queens, Emma Dent, The mill House and in the early days Archurs and Huntsmans. We have been back three times this year. We love the cosy atmosphere and it feels like going back in time. We relax, love the village and the staff who work at keeping the cottages in tip top condition. The Cottage manager is professional and nothing is too much trouble. I could not think of staying anywhere else.

Room Tip: For a larger family, use Emma Dent

when we drive through the gates on the drive it really felt like visiting a film set. And the story continued when we waked through the door of lady jane gray cottage with cotswold stone and beams throughout this was just what we wanted. Comfortable and well equipped in a prefect location, will be visiting again in the future.

Lovely old cottages that have been renovated with modern interiors. We stayed in the Queen Mary & found it to be super clean, with a well equipped kitchen, an electric fire, & a TV with the usual channels. It is a 5 minute walk into Winchcombe town centre (small though it is). We went in frosty January & even though it was icy outside, it was lovely & warm & cosy in the cottage. We had a lovely relaxing week just walking in the castle grounds & reading & cooking delicious meals. The members of staff we did see were very friendly & helpful, but we didn't really see anyone much- it was lovely & peaceful. Unfortunately the castle was shut to visitors at the time of year when we visited, therefore I couldn't give 5 stars, but I really don't have anything negative to say at all.

We have stayed in 3 of the cottages (Queens, Queen Mary and Emma Dent) on lots of occasions. Queens and Emma Dent are detached, Queen Mary semi-detached. Location is just down from the village of Winchcombe in the midst of lovely countryside within the Sudeley estate. It is always a delight to visit whether in sun, rain or snow! There is free access to the Castle gardens, however Sudeley Castle itself is not usually open. The cottages are well equipped and linen and towels provided. Winchcombe is a lovely small village and has pubs and eateries, tea shops and takeways. Lots of walking nearby. You are close to Cheltenham about 10 mins by car which is excellent for shopping.

My family stayed in the Queens cottage in May for 3 nights. The cottage was cute and quaint. The furnishings were nice and the cottage kitchen had everything needed to cook. The cottage consisted of a front porch with 2 chairs and table, the den with couches and tv, dining area with table and 4 chairs, bathroom, and kitchen. You go up the stairs to a landing that splits to separate bedrooms one with a queen bed and the other with two twins. We slept very well and it was very quiet.

The Queens cottage had a separate parking space behind the cottage. I believe the other cottages had to park in the parking lot behind the cottages. I will say as another reviewer did that the smoke detectors are sensitive. I was cooking a pizza in the oven and there was no smoke but the detector went off. I just shut the door to the kitchen and waved a towel above the detector which is in the dining room and it went off immediately. We did visit the castle which you have unlimited access to during your stay during open hours. It was a 5-10 minute walk through a field. The grounds were stunning and beautiful.

In the town we ate at Wesley House restaurant and White Hart Inn restaurant. They were both good but I preferred my meal at White Hart. There is also a grocery store we purchased items at and I believe a fish n chips take out place which we didn't try. All in all we had a lovely time and I'd definitely like to come back again.

I booked the Emma Dent, Queen's and Lady Jane Gray cottages for a 3 night stay. There were 10 of us in our group and everyone had a fantastic time. Our age group was from 8 months to...well 60 something.

The cottages are in a lovely location. Very close (walking distance) to Winchcombe which has lovely shops and a tea room but it still feels as if you are a million miles away from everything. The area around the cottages is very quiet. We didn't hear a peep, no traffic etc.

One word of warning, if approaching the cottages from Winchcombe, turn down the very tight corner to Castle Street, go over the bridge and the cottages are immediately on your right. Each car in our group missed the turning and it isn't easy to turn around!

The cottages were extremely well equipped. In Emma Dent we had an oven, microwave, toaster, fridge/freezer, utensils, washing up liquid, hand towel, tea towel etc. Each room had fresh towels. The matresses could do we being changed as they were a tad springy but nothing that kept me awake or anything!

The castle is a out a 5-10 min walk. The fastest route is up the hill and across the field. If you keep walking up the hill from the car park.

We stayed in Emma Dent and were pleasantly surprised with the cottage. It has been recently remodeled - and has a new kitchen, freshly painted walls and new carpets. The cottage and small village are both quite attractive. The bath is small but functional.
Our only complaint is that the mattresses were not very comfortable - you could feel the springs. We rectified this by using our comforters as mattress pads.
Having the washer/dryer available was great. We could have easily cooked in the well-stocked kitchen, but opted for a local pub/wine bar that was within walking distance.
