“A Brilliant B&B with such welcoming hosts!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2013

We stayed here for one night for a Wedding and were treated like royalty! The hosts were welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. In the room we we had tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits, sweets, soaps, bottles of water and we could help ourselves to the cold bottled water in the fridge in the dining area. The bed was really comfortable the best night sleep I have had in ages. There was a fan in the wardrobe which we could use if too hot. The breakfast was brilliant to start a wide selection of fruits and nuts with yoghurt, choices of cereals and the fried breakfast was so huge it kept us going all day! I had left the car at the castle and Tom took me to collect which I was extremely grateful for. A brilliant B&B and brilliant hosts we will be back to visit again! Thanks

We stayed here for 4 nights and I loved it. Not like many B&Bs I have stayed in. Lots of weird and wonderful pictures and knickknacks decorating the place, bright colours on the walls; best of all, a very friendly welcome with hosts who offered us a pot of tea as soon as we arrived and chatted with us as we drank it. There was tea, coffee, hot choc, biscuits, little mint chocolates and bottles of water in the room. In the dining area there was a fridge with bottled water available, plus a bowl of sweets and a bowl of fruit. The breakfast was so enormous we did not need to buy supper. There was a fantastic selection of fresh fruit, nuts and raisins plus a full cooked breakfast each morning. Pat and Tom also went above and beyond the call of duty as a taxi service. We were walking the Winchcombe Way over three days and on one day needed a taxi ride back from the end of that day. The taxi service turned out to be on holiday! No other taxis available so Pat turned out to collect us and then Tom returned us to the same point the following morning. Saved us a few hours of walking and very much appreciated! Extremely generous hosts all round.

Room Tip: You might want to check if there is a shower before booking. Our room had a bath. Others may have...

The bathroom had what appeared to be a 5 watt CFL bulb, not a bad idea so the guests can't see what is lurking in the bathroom carpet. The stank of mildew would not go away even when both windows were left open all day (one of them wouldn't lock anyway in a ground level, street facing room). Forget about sleeping with the curtains and windows open to help with the mildew smell: there is a high voltage, orange sodium light shining on the house all night long. There are nick knacks crowding every available horizontal surface and ugly art on just about every inch of (beet color paint over old wallpaper) wall space. The couple who run it stand over you while you have breakfast and interrogate you on your whereabouts and plans for the day. The bed linens were ugly and very low quality. The mandatory one star goes for the good selection of fruit for breakfast.

Room Tip: There is no good room at this reconverted old folks home. Best to avoid this place at all cost.

Arrived in town late which was our first mistake. After the helpful woman at the Information Office called just about everywhere around town we were left with Oaklands at 80 pds for the night. Were put in a "family" room despite there being only the two of us and apparently no other guests in the house. The place smelled like it had recently flooded and leaving the window open helped with the musty smell however the dog next door started barking around 4 am. On the plus side, breakfast was good, the owners pleasant and we were given full access to the computer and phone for our next night's accommodation booking.

Just returned from a two night break walking the Winchcombe Way and stayed at the Oaklands.
Tom and Pat were the perfect hosts and nothing was too much trouble, even getting Pat out of bed on our early arrival!.
What was nice was there was always a full supply of coffee and milks in the room so we didn't need to ask for more.
The breakfast was to die for as you probably would if you stayed there a week. My buddy reduced his eggs from two to one on the second day because there was too much on his plate.
I can recommend this B & B to anyone.
To eat at night we went to the Plaisterers and the Corner Cupboard both in Winchcome. Both were not cheap but well cooked. The Corners drinks were expensive and the mushy peas with the fish came in a thimble sized container. Considering mushy peas are 45p a tin I would have expected much more for my £9 but the waitress brough us larger portions on request. Due to the drink prices we went for a couple of pints in a pub in Greet Road later.
I have only put average for value because the cost was £45 each per night which I felt was a little more than I would expect to pay however perhaps these are Cotswold prices !

Room Tip: Some single and ajoining doubles which would be great for a family and child

I highly recommend Oaklands Bed and Breakfast. The room that we had was very cute. The room we had was overlooking the street. It really feels like home. Very quiet area and we really slept very well after the late night. Thank you to Pat and her husband for the great hospitality. And also for sending my scarf that I left in the room. We appreciate all the advise and the great stories. We truly enjoyed our stay. We will definitely come back!!! - V&D

Our family of four stayed at Oaklands for two nights and had a wonderful time. The owners are so warm and hospitable. You are welcome to check your email on their computer and the breakfasts are delicious. They even have a very safe play area for young kids. We were thrilled to actually have TWO rooms that shared one bathroom separating them. At the end of long days of hiking and exploring the town, our kids enjoyed their separate room with bunk-beds and its own TV/DVD player. The rooms were spotless and it was very quiet, we slept great. This was the most spacious set-up we had thoughout our 12 days in the Costwolds and we were sorry to leave for the next place where we'd all be in one small room again. Oaklands is wonderful. I highly recommend it!
