“Lovely old hotel in good old English village.”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

We stayed here for four nights to enable us to attend a family celebration and were very impressed with the food and staff. Yes it is old - 16th or 17th century coaching inn - but the rooms had been given a sympathetic up-grade in keeping with the character of the building. Unfortunately no lift but the room on possibly the 3rd floor was big and beautiful with marvelous views across the valley - lovely view of the Church in the early morning mist. The staff were friendly and helpful and did move us after the first night to a room on the first floor. Breakfast was very good and freshly cooked and Seniors Lunch @ £5.95 for two courses was thoroughly enjoyed especially the roast beef with homemade horseradish sauce. Would definately stay here again.

Room Tip: All good if you can manage the stairs.

A welcome place to stay after a day's walking on the Cotswold Way. Friendly staff. Room was large and clean. Lovely to find a bathtub as well as a shower. Had dinner in the pub which was very good. Enjoyed meeting the resident cat. Not a quiet street and it was hot so had to have windows open but still slept well. Would recommend.

I was here for an informal business meeting with a couple of colleagues. Tucking ourselves out the way, the staff could not be more accommodating.

Lovely old building which is very well kept. Good coffee, great range of sandwiches at a great price, even the salad had a lovely dressing meaning it was eaten rather than wasted.

The staff were very very friendly, polite and an asset to the place.

Will definitely be visiting when in the area.

We stayed here for one night, whilst walking the Cotswold Way. The welcome was very warm, and the staff genuinely friendly. Check in was easy. We had dinner in the restaurant. The menu was varied and used local produce. Quality of the food was good for both dinner and breakfast. The bar catered for locals which made for a friendly atmosphere. We had a twin room, which was spacious with double and single, and also had a sofa. Decor in our room was modern, though our friends had a four poster bed and more traditional room. Shower over bath was OK, though it took a while for the hot water to come through. There were mix ups on the breakfast with various guests not getting what the asked for, but this was the night after the late England match.

Room Tip: We had a twin room, which was spacious with modern double and single, and also had a sofa. Decor in...

Stayed one night as a stop off on the Cotswold Way, reviews had left me with low expectations - what I found was a large, clean room with a four poster bed, decent bathroom and polite, uninstrusive service. If I would grumble I would say the shower was not exactly high pressure. Ideally located for the local amenities.

good location and charming from the outside. Absolutely dreadful food and dismal but adequate accommodation! Stayed there with friends on the Cotswold way walk. Had dinner there - ordered broccoli and stilton soup which arrived a beige colour and with a thick skin on top drizzled with dried herbs.
Would NOT stay there again.
One nice thing was the guy serving breakfast asked me if my dog needed feeding.

Mel F, General Manager at The Swan Hotel, responded to this review, 12 April 2014
Dear Guest, we apologised and acknowledged an issue with the soup, which I personally raised with the chef (at the time) and you were refunded for this. You ate your other meals without any complaints and were asked if everything was to your expectations. Both myself and the chef had spent some time talking to you and you said you were pleased and satisfied. I am unsure why you have had a bad experience and would like to find out why you have had any cause to raise these comments, as I thought you had left having a good experience. Please would you allow me to respond to you in full and address any issues you have, by calling the hotel directly and speaking with either myself David or Chris the chef. We take all comments and issues seriously and welcome as much feedback as possible to ensure all customers and guests leave with a positive experience. I find this frustrating as upon check out I asked you if everything had been positive and you had said your stay was pleasant other than the minor issue with the soup. Several days later you have posted a negative response which appears damaging to the business and does not reflect your comments upon leaving. Please do get in-touch to honestly provide feedback about your stay.
