“Lovely Inn, lovely food, lovely people”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2014

Me, my wife & friend visited the Royal Oak Inn as we were visiting a local attraction and had travelled from Kent so was looking for a good local pub/restaurant to dine in at. After searching the internet, the Royal Oak Inn had some positive reviews so we took a punt on the place. We arrived to be told by one of the staff that the restaurant was fully booked and had was told to try another establishment in Wotton.
But in a matter of minutes another member of staff came over and said that if we didn't mind waiting a few minutes, they could sort us out a table in the bar area.
I could tell this place was a hit with the locals and the pub owner went out his way to greet the pub goers on first name terms.
We were seated with ease and ordered our food and at all times the pub staff asked if we were happy with the seating arrangement and if we were not, were happy to locate us to a better table when one became available.
We ordered our food which from the menu red like a locally produced good filling hearty pub food and when the food arrived we were correct in our assumptions.
I ordered the signature Oak burger and chips with coleslaw and I could tell when biting and tasting the burger, the beef was freshly made and cooked and seasoned to perfection. The coleslaw was fresh and the chips were chucky, nicely seasoned and crunchy and were quite thick wedges of potato which I loved. My wife had the fish and chips, the fish was flaky and lovely bubbly signature batter.
All this washed down with good local ale which really hit the spot. I would recommend the 'Codger' ale.
I would definitely recommend this place to any of my friends passing through Wotton in the future.
Excellent Customer service and ensuring that we felt welcome at the Inn, top quality food that impressed me for an Inn (why has the Inn not got a Michelin Star???), very reasonable prices for the level of food quality we had. Warm, cosy, welcoming Inn

“wandering to the Royal Oak”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 February 2014

Came to Wotton to an auction and went here for lunch two days running. Everyone very welcoming and obliging we sat in front of a real fire (they lit it especially for us on the second day) and had huge platefuls of soup/sandwiches/chips all at a really competitive price. We just could not eat it all. Brilliant.

“Good deal”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 February 2014 via mobile

We were staying in Wotton for a romantic getaway and enjoyed all the eateries that Wotton has two offer. We booked in the royal oak and went for their 2 steaks and a bottle of wine deal which was very well priced, it's a great place if you want something cheap and cheerful the steak was good but not great and the same can be said for the wine but for this price we had a fantastic night and really enjoyed the music afterwards, would recommend this place for the deal, but better places are in the area.

Visited the oak the other week for a family birthday with several friends we went on a friday night as we new their was live music on later. most of our party where won over by the steak deal but a few went for the special board. all the food arrived quickly and was hot and very tasty my steak was one of the best I've had. as for the rest of our group i didn't hear any complaints which is quite rare. To sum the oak up its a great place, good food good beer and great service can't wait to go back.

“Fantastic Sunday dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 January 2014

We visited this pub last Sunday on spec and was very pleasantly surprised, we had white bait to start which was very fresh and light, then I had pork dinner and the pork was tender and succulent, the best pork dinner I have ever had ( and I have had a few :-)!! ) all the veg and pots were cooked well too, not soggy, not too hard just perfect . My husband had the old spot Gloucester sausage and mash and he said the were the best he has ever tasted and the gravy was fab too.

Would definitely recommend this place for everyone, so if you are in the area then call in here you won't be disappointed.
