Me, my wife & friend visited the Royal Oak Inn as we were visiting a local attraction and had travelled from Kent so was looking for a good local pub/restaurant to dine in at. After searching the internet, the Royal Oak Inn had some positive reviews so we took a punt on the place. We arrived to be told by one of the staff that the restaurant was fully booked and had was told to try another establishment in Wotton.
But in a matter of minutes another member of staff came over and said that if we didn't mind waiting a few minutes, they could sort us out a table in the bar area.
I could tell this place was a hit with the locals and the pub owner went out his way to greet the pub goers on first name terms.
We were seated with ease and ordered our food and at all times the pub staff asked if we were happy with the seating arrangement and if we were not, were happy to locate us to a better table when one became available.
We ordered our food which from the menu red like a locally produced good filling hearty pub food and when the food arrived we were correct in our assumptions.
I ordered the signature Oak burger and chips with coleslaw and I could tell when biting and tasting the burger, the beef was freshly made and cooked and seasoned to perfection. The coleslaw was fresh and the chips were chucky, nicely seasoned and crunchy and were quite thick wedges of potato which I loved. My wife had the fish and chips, the fish was flaky and lovely bubbly signature batter.
All this washed down with good local ale which really hit the spot. I would recommend the 'Codger' ale.
I would definitely recommend this place to any of my friends passing through Wotton in the future.
Excellent Customer service and ensuring that we felt welcome at the Inn, top quality food that impressed me for an Inn (why has the Inn not got a Michelin Star???), very reasonable prices for the level of food quality we had. Warm, cosy, welcoming Inn
