“The Garden Room makes a brilliant break in a great location”
Reviewed 28 December 2013 for a stay in December 2013

Stayed over Christmas when weather could scarcely have been worse; no matter, this fantastic hideaway more than compensated. The beautifully set-up Garden Room was warm, dry and welcoming; as were the hosts Sue and Maz who could not have done more to make us feel welcome. The menagerie of ducks, dogs, guinea fowl and chickens wander around contentedly as the horses exercise in the ring. Our own dog loved all the company, as did we. The legendary breakfast prepared by Sue lived up to their reputation and it was special to enjoy it in their home where a roaring open fire crackled in the background. The Red Shoot pub just up the road was great for a drink and meal, and wandering the forest was a perfect way to develop an appetite. We will certainly return and see what the area looks like in a different season.

“Better than a home from home!”
Reviewed 2 December 2013 for a stay in November 2013

Sue and Maz were both extremely helpful from the word go. They emailed lots of information through to us prior to our weekend away so we came prepared. On arrival Sue was lovely and showed us everything we needed to know and showed us to our little weekend hideaway! The room was lovely - burning candles and incense sticks awaited us, as did a beautiful room and cozy welcome, along with a lovely bottle of red! :) The little touches were lovely and certainly more than you would get from a five star hotel! One little thing that would have been welcome would be a small fridge to keep water, milk etc but this in no way detracted from our enjoyment but just a little bit of feedback :) The description is right in that the New Forest is right on your doorstep, as are wonderful local pubs. We enjoyed a 2 hour walk through the Forest to a wonderful little pub (Royal Oak at Fritham) which served a basic but wonderful lunch. Our real eye opener and real highlight to our two nights away was Sue's amazing breakfast! We were welcomed into her home to a blazing fire and cozy table overlooking her garden where farm animals wandered past, along with Sue and Maz' beautiful pack of dogs. The table was laden with fruits, honey, yoghurt, Sue's wonderful homemade muesli, jams and orange juice. We were then served up freshly baked bread and croissants and finally a cooked breakfast! Wow! We couldn't have asked for a more perfect setting to enjoy a leisurely relaxed breakfast and what a spread! We even took a picture to show our son! The farm animals were lovely and added a country twist to our weekend. Being a dog lover it was great to be welcomed by the pack and have a cuddle with all the lovely family. We would certainly recommend the Garden Room and if you are looking for something different, with that extra special touch, this is the place for you! Lovely xx

Liked best: Sue's wonderful welcoming breakfast!
Liked least: Somewhere to store milk as we didn't like to interrupt Sue or Maz to ask for more.

“Decent accommodation, great breakfast, lovely location”
Reviewed 15 November 2013 for a stay in October 2013

The Garden Room was decent, very outlandish in its design and setup but quite funky and different. We went with our three small dogs and it was a bit crowded, The Garden Room would be lovely in the summer as it’s surrounded by beautiful countryside and gardens. With our 3 dogs we found it a little cramped, a couple staying alone, or maybe one dog would be perfect. The main window in the bedroom needs proper curtains as the light streamed through from early morning even though it was late October. There is plenty of cupboard space (for a 2 night stay for us anyway) however the other large wardrobe needs to be locked, (it contains lots of clothes, toothbrush and grooming products of a man), or marked off limits. Lovely supplies left for us including plenty of tea and coffee, juices, cake bars and a well chosen bottle of red wine. The bed is a little soft and the bathroom a bit small but it is what it is and I don’t wish to knock it.

To stay here you MUST be animal friendly, lots of chickens, cockerels, geese, and dogs wandering around. We thought it needed a little fence with a gate to break it off from the main house garden, this would allow guests dogs to roam without getting to the main house. We had the Labradors come bounding up to the front door several times winding up our dogs.

The hosts, Sue and Mazin, were lovely and couldn’t do enough to help, they loved our dogs and obviously love all their animals, it’s quite a place.

Breakfast was incredible, it was a ginormous quantity and of great quality. Lovely tasty sausages, bacon, fresh mushrooms and an obviously home reared quality egg. The Portuguese melted cheese with herbs to go on doorstep toast was especially good. As was the quantity of muesli, pastries, jams, yoghurt, juice and coffee on offer. My only criticism I could level at it, and I feel really harsh saying it, is a potentially unacceptable level of animal hairs in my 2nd day breakfast. I got on with it and didn’t let it spoil my enjoyment of it (and polished off most of it alone!) but I have to be honest.

Dinner – thoroughly recommend the Red Shoots pub for dinner, we ate there twice, both very good meals, I had a massive special burger with hash brown and egg one night, then fresh fish and chips the next night. My wife did well with a jacket potato and cheese one night then cheese Ploughmans. They have their own micro-brewery so I enjoyed their own ales, especially the Red White and Brew, plenty of cider and lager options too. The staff were always polite and friendly especially when they were really busy for a Halloween party night.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights and it was great. The accommodation is comfortable, beautifully decorated and clean. Sue was a perfect host and cooked the best breakfast we've ever had! We were totally set up for a day of walking. The surrounding area is beautiful and peaceful with plenty of great walks and the cottage itself is only a few minutes walk from the pub to enjoy a nice meal and a pint in the evening. We are definitely going to return! It ticked all the boxes for us and as an added bonus they are lots of lovely animals to get to know on the farm. I got quite attached to the labradors!

“I'd struggle to think of how it could be improved”
Reviewed 3 October 2013 for a stay in September 2013

The Garden Room looked lovely and inviting from the pictures. It not only lived up to these but far surpassed any expectations we had. We went down as a couple and were greeted by Sue, who is the perfect host. The detailing in the room was stunning and made us feel as if we were in a period film. Everything was of the highest quality throughout the weekend and I couldn't recommend it more highly. As well as the room, the breakfast was fabulous, with fresh eggs from either the free range hens or ducks as well as being offered as much organic yoghurt, granola, and pastries as you could manage.

Maz and sue gave us advice when we asked for it, and were fabulous hosts. 5 stars isn't enough and we will be returning next year.
