“Its OK!!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 November 2011

Stayed here for a week it was a ok! hotel. welcome was nice and plentiful. Breakfast was descent. the furniture was a little dated. Nice selection of coffee, hot chocolate and tea in our room. Cleaner did come in every morning.

Room Tip: great pub round corner £1.60 per pint and cheap food.

The title says it all. For tourists (we were), this is REALLY far from the harbour, rail station and downtown Portsmouth.
The breakfast was far below the average B&B breakfast.
Service was good.
Our room was very very large and spotless.
As it is far from the city centre, can't complain about the noise, it was a good night of sleep, quiet!

We arrived from Norway as a blended group with grandparents and in-laws, and children aged 1-5. Having emailed quite a lot with the host we soon saw that he had understood our needs perfectly and found out who should go in which rooms. We had one whole floor to ourselves (4 rooms.). The host was always at hand later in the stay for any questions, both regarding our stay and the surroudnings. Bus is nearby. The shoppigdistict of Southsea as well, even for 5 year young feet. Severeal nice places to eat within walking distance. Typical english breakfast hith nice beakfastlady on top floor. Both crib and highchair avaliable for the children; new, well functioning and clean. (Not taken for granted when travelling with children.) Very nice bathrooms, both in the room and for common use. Big bathtub where all 3 children could take a bath at the same time. Nice hall where we played. We definitly would stay here if we ever come back to the Portsmouth aerea.

We stayed 1 night but as with the above, found the noise from the main road a nuisance. We would also have appreciated another en-suite room and cannot understand why the massive family room my sister occupied on her own was not ensuite.
The breakfast was good as well but will look for somewhere quieter next time

I have visited the Portsmouth uni early this year (2008) and have been suggested to stay at the Ferrymen while looking for a house. It as been too short a stay. Very clean and spacious room, shared bathroom but huge, with both an american shower and a bathtub, all VERY clean. No noise in my experience, probably the other reporter had a different room (I was at the 1st floor). Imho the manager is doing an excellent job and is very helpful with every aspect of your stay, going well beyond his duties. The breakfast is very generous and well cooked. A truly perfect stay for the £35/day I have payed. Probably the best quality/price in my records! Hope to re-visit soon!

  • Liked — cordiality, cleanliness, theis english breakfast
  • Disliked — nothing
