“Excellent service - quiet and peaceful”
Reviewed 3 June 2012

We stayed for 2 nights in May. The room was small but comfortable and tastefully decorated. It had everything we needed and when we failed to bring the proper power converter from the US Stattons graciously provided us with one with no charge. They were also very helpful when we misplaced a wallet and had to cancel our credit card. They allowed us to call the US at no charge and also contacted the police department for us. I agree with other reviews that the only negative items worth mentioning is the fact that a hot breakfast is an additional charge but we found the continental breakfast to be more than adequate and while the bed linens seemed to be high quality the sheets were shedding and left lint on our clothing. If we return to Portsmouth we would return to Stattons. We stayed at several other hotels during our trip to Europe and can't honestly remember them but can remember everything about this one because it is unique and special.

Room Tip: I think we had room#1. It appeared smaller than some of the other rooms but was cozy and comfortabl...

We took over the whole of Stattons for a weekend family event. We could not have been looked after better, all our various rearrangements were sorted out with the utmost courtesy and graciousness by Kevin, the proprietor, and we had an extremely comfortable and happy stay. We didn't dine at the hotel but the breakfast was great and I would DEFINITELY go back to this hotel.

Really beautiful building, tastefully decorated and in a great area. The service was good and free parking was welcomed. I would recommend this as a good place to stay. My only negatives were for £100 a night I would have liked hot breakfast options (you can order these but have to pay extra) - the continental breakfast is basically cereal and toast. I also thought our ensuite wasnt as clean as it could be (evidence of that orangey limescale between the tiles). However overall would definitely stay there again and like other people say - really nice change from chain hotels.

Stayed at Stattons Hotel for one night in April. It has a good location just off the promenade in Southsea and is an old Victorian (?) villa / house thats been tastefully converted into a boutique hotel. Handy free parking. Nice welcome from the receptionist who showed us up to the room which was a good sized double on the top floor with a roll top bath. In generally good decorative order although some of the furniture was a bit scuffed, the salmon-pink bedspread needed a deep clean, lots of cables were hanging down from the wall mounted TV which looked poor (and would be easily hidden), and operating bits were missing from both the venetian blind and bath - the latter missing thing was the lever for the bath tap / shower valve which was then found in a drawer so I repaired it...!

A continental breakfast was included but this consisted of just cereals, juice and toast - I thought it was a bit stingey to charge for things like a bacon sandwich given the cost of the room.

Overall a very pleasant stay and a change from more corporate options in the area. It's a mile or two to the attractions in Portsmouth such as Gunwharf and the dockyard, but it's a pleasant walk along the seafront. If they sorted out the niggly problems in the rooms and maybe included the hot breakfast this would be almost perfect.

Great hotel with great staff in what seemed like a decent location.

Sky movies and sports was a bonus!

We stayed here on business and were really pleased we went a little off-track. The hotel has been thoughtfully converted and retains plenty of original character. There is no restaurant (although breakfast is provided), but there are plenty of good choices within easy walking distance. The welcome and service from the staff was very warm and friendly and we will definately stay here next time we're in Portsmouth

We booked into this hotel after reading other reviews and deciding it was worth a try.

We were very impressed by the room we were given [room 1],the fittings were sharp and modern with matching wall paper. The bed was most comfortable and the bathroom clean and modern with a corner shower, complete with a full shower head, not just a handle on a hose.

Breakfast included a full continental breakfast in the room fee and for a small extra fee 7pounds 50p a full English breakfast is available.

However my lasting memory of Stattons will be the service provided by Kevin and Nick the day and night managers. Prior to our arrival I had contracted a medical problem in France that needed treatment, which I had not been able to find, I emailed Kevin and asked if he could find a Medical Centre/doctor for me on our arrival from France. When we arrived at the hotel at 7:30pm they had arranged for me to visit a medical centre and I was able to get the treatment I required, a great physical and emotional relief. In the morning they helped us with train time tables and a taxi to the station.

Stattons may not be the 'best' hotel in Portsmouth, but I believe that I will go a long way to get better value for my money.

Room Tip: Typical English hotel, lots of stairs. If you have a lot of luggage, ask for a ground floor room.
